~Synopsis~

Regan

I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two months later, I'm at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays. He says he's here to save me, but can I trust him? All I know of him are his sarcastic retorts and his tendency to solve every dispute with his gun. He's also the only safe thing in my world, and I know it's wrong to fall in love with him, but I can't seem to help myself. He says he’ll protect me until his last breath but I don’t know if I should believe him or even if I can.

Daniel

For the last eighteen months, I’ve had one goal: to find my kidnapped sister. I’ve left the Army, turned paid hit man, and have befriended criminals all across the globe. In every brothel I raid or every human trafficking truck I stop, her face is the one I’m desperate to see. In Rio, I find Regan Porter, bruised but not broken and still sane despite her weeks in hell. I should leave her behind or send her home because the last thing either of us needs is to get involved. But with every passing minute, I find I can’t let her go.

~Review~

Oh man, I freaking loved this book. I really enjoyed Last Hit but Last Breath blew it out of the water. Daniel and Regan are two kick ass characters and they definitely go to hell and back together but when they come out on the other side, they are both so much stronger. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure how I would handle this book since sexual assault is a subject that I’m not always comfortable with. As a warning, it’s a bit tough in the beginning and while I think Jen and Jessica handled it well, it still may not be for everyone.

Regan has had the worst 2 months of her life and after being sold into sex slavery, she is barely holding on. I could not even imagine what she has been through and I was super amazed by how strong she was. She is definitely not unaffected and will be scarred for life but she is a fighter and she never went down without a fight. Daniel is a total badass and I am seriously in love with him. He is a deadly assassin but he has such a big heart and I love the way he protects and cares for Regan. He knows how fragile she is and the way he handles her with such care and concern was incredible.

Daniel and Regan have a really great relationship and from the beginning there is definitely a connection between them. Despite all she’s been through, Regan feels the pull and it really scares her. After everything she’s been through, how can she ever trust another man? However, as soon as she knows that Daniel is there to save her, she can’t help but trust him. He becomes a lifeline for her and that really helps her stay strong and heal. I loved the way Daniel helped Regan gain back control and discover pleasure again. I’m sure she felt like damaged goods and thought she would never be able to enjoy sex again. They care and gentleness he showed her was incredible and I loved the way he used humor to help her feel comfortable. Also, Daniel is quite a dirty talker and the scenes between he and Regan were pretty steamy. Ok, REALLY steamy!

One of the things that I really loved was how well balanced the action and romance was in this book. It was definitely full of suspense and there were some fantastic action scenes. It was great to see Regan and Daniel build a relationship and fall for each other while fleeing and fighting for their lives. They really worked well together and I loved Regan’s growth and how brave she was in the end. I was impressed with her selflessness and the way she put her life on the line for Daniel.

Overall, this was a fabulous read for me and I was riveted the entire time. I liked the way Jen and Jessica handled the tough subject of the book and I felt like the characters were very well developed. I also really liked the plot and felt like it flowed well and kept me interested the entire time. I think Jessica and Jen are amazing authors and they make an incredible writing duo.

Sweet Little Thing

Watch this duo grow in more ways than one in SWEET Little THING.

~Review~

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love Will and Mia and anyone who knows me, knows that Will Ryan is my book husband. I adore this man and wish there was a guy like him out there in real life. He continues to prove his love and devotion to Mia and with this novella in his POV, I fell even more in love with him.

Will and Mia have come a long ways and I loved seeing them finally happy together. They had a long and tumultuous journey to get where they are but I could really feel the love they had for one another. I really loved the way they handled the things that life threw at them and the way they supported each other.  Mia has come a long way and her growth as a character really shined through in this novella. Instead of running away from Will when things get tough, she forges ahead with him by her side.

Will is still a bit neurotic and he definitely has his share of episodes. He can get a bit panicky when things seem out of his control but Mia really centers him.  He has really come a long way with his career and I love that he doesn't sell out and he sticks true to his music and his beliefs. He and Mia need stability but he would never compromise their sound for money.

This was a really sweet novella and I loved spending a little more time with Will and Mia. I absolutely adored Sweet Thing and I was so happy to get a chance to see their happily ever after and how it all turned out. I loved that all the angst was left behind in Sweet Thing and this novella was all about Will and Mia building a beautiful relationship and starting a life together.

Blog Tour Review + Dreamcast + Giveaway: Flawed Perfection by Cassandra Giovanni

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Flawed Perfection by Cassandra Giovanni. Check out my review and Cassandra's dreamcast and enter the giveaway.

Flawed Perfection
(Beautifully Flawed #1)
Author: Cassandra Giovanni
Publication Date: March 7, 2013
Genre: New Adult
Source: eARC via author

~Synopsis~
Bobby Beckerson was the American All-Star hockey player--he was the spitting image of perfection to his family. Goofy, sweet and undeniably gorgeous, he had everything but the one girl he wanted: River Ahlers.

River Ahlers is successful in everything but love. She's been in love with Adam Beckerson since they were kids. Worst of all she's stuck right in the middle of the brother's dueling over everything and anything, and she doesn't even know she's the ultimate prize.

Adam Beckerson was a boy with a guitar, a smile that sunk girl's hearts and a stone wall around his own. He was anything but perfect, and no matter how hard he tried he was nothing compared to Bobby. Sweet, damaged, with boyish good-looks, nobody thought Adam loved anyone but himself.

Bobby loved River, River loved Adam and Adam only loved himself--or so everyone thought. Then one night everything changes, and as it threatens to destroy everyone involved a tragedy strikes that will break them all...

~Review~

Love triangles are more common in young adult so I liked that Flawed Perfection added this element to a new adult book. With two brothers fighting over one girl, there was sure to be drama in this one. River is best friends with Bobby and Adam Beckerson but she has always loved Adam and Bobby has always loved River. No one knows who Adam loves, or do they?

There are a few things I like about River. She is honest about her feelings and she is a loyal friend. She never hides how she feels from Bobby or leads him on. He knows she loves Adam and she has always made her feelings for Adam and her desire for only friendship known to Bobby. She is always there for both Adam and Bobby and I really liked the way she supported Adam and stood up for him to his parents. Despite her feelings for Adam and how hard it is to be around him, she is always there to support him and be his friend.

I really liked Adam and even though he was considered a player, his feelings for River were obvious and I liked that he really cared for her. I was a little frustrated with him and his back and forth. I’m a bit over the “bad boy” thinking he’s not good enough for the girl. Even though Adam dated a lot of women, he wasn’t really a bad boy and he had no reason to think he wasn’t good enough for River. However, I understood that he would have that lack of self-worth considering the relationship he had with his parents. They are definitely not nice people and the way they favored Bobby and put down Adam was really sad. I could only imagine how he felt about himself considering the way they criticized everything he did and worshipped the ground Bobby walked on.

I wasn’t a big fan of Bobby. I felt like he was a bit manipulative and kind of malicious. I understood that he was madly in love with River and that it hurt him to see her pine over Adam but his actions were definitely immature. Instead of being happy that River is finally happy and Adam has realized his feelings, he chooses to try and mess with their relationship and he does some really hurtful things to both of them. However, I felt like Bobby grew a bit in the end and I was happy to see him make amends for River and Adam and finally be a little happy for them both. I was also really proud that he was finally able to see the shadow he had created for Adam with their parents and he finally recognized that.

Adam and River definitely had some chemistry and it was something that they couldn’t deny forever. You could feel the pull between them and the way they cared for and supported each other was so much more than just friendship, it was definitely love. They really went through a lot to be together and it was tough on them that it hurt their relationships with Bobby. I really liked that they didn’t let it affect them though. They worked really hard to help Bobby get over it but they didn’t let his behavior come between them and I really respected that. They hit some real obstacles in the end and they have a lot they will need to overcome together in the future.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I really liked the character development and the development of their relationships between them all. I felt like the plot lacked a little direction and I had a hard time following it at times. It felt a little disjointed to me. However, I still really enjoyed the book and it will be interesting to see how River and Adam handle the future they have ahead of them.

~Review~

I am a Melody Grace fan for life and I absolutely adore the Beachwood Bay series. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of Unconditional when I found out that Carina was the heroine. I didn’t care for her too much in Unbroken and I wasn’t sure how Melody could turn her around. However, I somehow knew she’d end up making me love Carina and I was right.

Carina definitely puts on a show and really hides her true self. Deep inside, she is struggling with guilt and self-loathing that causes her to come off as frigid and cold. She has used her demeanor as a coping mechanism for so long that she doesn’t allow herself to feel emotion. I really liked Carina’s growth and there is definitely so much more to her than meets the eye. She doesn’t believe she deserves love and kindness but when she opens up to Garrett, she sees a new life and a new start. She works really hard to make amends and figure out who she is and what she wants out of her life. I liked that she reached out to Juliet for forgiveness and a second chance but respected her feelings and didn’t push her too hard.

I loved Garrett! He is such a sweet and incredible man. He is perceived as a bad boy, man whore but the truth is, he has really been hurt in the past and he is afraid to love again. I was desperate to find out what had happened to him in the past and my heart truly broke for him when it was revealed. I hated that Garrett blamed himself so much for what happened and refused to let himself love again. I really liked the way he supported and helped Carina. He saw through her façade and he opened his heart to her. When he pushed her away, I wanted to punch him in the face because I hated that he was always punishing himself.

Garrett and Carina had incredible chemistry and the sexual tension was very palpable. They were definitely at each other’s throats in the beginning and really out to frustrate one another but really that was how they dealt with the burning desire they had for each other. I liked the way Carina fought for Garrett. She wanted him and she didn’t back down easy. She knew he wanted her too and she was determined to break him. I liked that Garrett didn’t see Carina as another quick lay, but instead, really felt something for her. They both deserve happiness and love and they definitely found it in each other. It may have been a rocky road and taken them both some time to admit their feelings but when they finally let all the fear go, they created something really perfect.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a fantastic addition to a wonderful series and once again I was enamored with the characters, the writing, and the plot. What I loved the most was how Melody took a less than favorable character from a previous book and developed her into someone that I truly liked.

~Excerpt~
What the hell are you thinking? Carina McKenzie is off-limits. I stride away from her before she can see how rattled I am, waiting until I’m safe in the front seat of my truck before I let out a breath of pure desire.

Damn.

I only meant to tease her, push her buttons some more as payback for being such a judgmental bitch, but once I got close, gazing into those bright blue eyes, I couldn’t stop myself reaching out for a touch of her silken skin.

And then it all went to hell.

Lust hit me like a tire-iron, and suddenly, I didn’t care about her the girl I just packed out the door only an hour before. I didn’t care about the stuffed-shirt of a fiancé she’s got waiting back home. All I wanted was her. To capture those perfect pink lips with my own, to taste her, tease her. Drive her so crazy with desire she forgot this bitching, and all her stuck-up complaints. I wanted to see her come undone, crying out, so caught up in ecstasy she forgot her own name---

I slam the steering wheel with a groan.

What the hell is wrong with you? You can’t stand the girl, she’s nothing but a stuck up,

drama queen bitch! I take a gulp of air, and turn my key in the ignition, backing out of the driveway past her fancy new BMW. What she’s even doing in Beachwood Bay is anyone’s guess. She’s the last person I expected to find showing up in the middle of the night like that. She probably thought she’d find some chi-chi beach hideaway to do her nails and catch up on fashion magazines. I’d bet a hundred bucks, she won’t be there when I get back tonight. I wouldn’t blame her. I replay the scene on the porch again as I drive through town, remembering the dazed look of intoxicating desire on her face -- and then the flash of anger when I turned the tables, and pretended like it was all just a game.

I feel a stab of guilt. Maybe I shouldn’t have gone so far, but Carina finds a way to push my buttons, she always does. That sniping about Lorna, and what a man-whore I am -- it was just like the wedding. She acts like she’s so much better than me, like I’m nothing to her, it just makes me want to show her how wrong she is -- that this strange chemistry works both ways, and she wants me just as much as I want her.

I don’t understand it. Girls like Carina have never been my type. Sure, she’s beautiful, but that kind of beauty is all make-up and fake smiles; it’s like they spend all their time pretending to be someone else, there’s nothing left under the surface at all. They don’t know how to feel, or know themselves, and once you get them in bed... Well, it’s all fake porny moans and writhing, like they’re performing for someone who isn’t even there. But Carina... I see a flash of those blue eyes, wide with lust; her perfect pink lips parted, her breath coming fast. That girl’s a mystery, I just can’t seem to figure out. One minute she’s playing the society bitch, sneering down her nose at me, and the next, it’s like she’s someone else completely. The mask slips, and suddenly, I see a different girl underneath it all: someone raw, and fragile, and achingly real.

Which girl is she? The one who sneers down her nose at me, or the girl who watches the shore with shadows on her face, and demons hiding behind her smile. The girl who can’t hide the desire that in her eyes when she looks at me. A glimpse of a passion that could take my breath away. Forget it, I tell myself harshly. That girl is none of your business. And even if she could be, it’s no use.

You swore, you’d never try that again.

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Kissing Eden by T.A. Foster

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Kissing Eden by T.A. Foster. Check out my review of this cute contemporary and enter the giveaway.

Kissing Eden
Author: T.A. Foster
Publication Date: March 6, 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Source: eARC via Inkslinger PR

~Synopsis~
Have you ever thought of taking a vacation alone? I mean step on a plane, check into your hotel, and lie on the beach completely and utterly alone. No? Me either, but then right before senior spring break I got dumped.
Something about break ups makes you do things you didn’t want to do, and try things you didn’t know you were capable of.

That’s how I ended up at the Palm Palace.
That’s how I met Grey.
That’s how my spring break turned into the most unforgettable week of my life.

 ~Review~

Kissing Eden was a very cute contemporary romance and I really enjoyed reading it. I like T.A. Foster’s writing style and I think she comes up with some very creative plot lines that make reading one of her contemporary novels fun and exciting. With all of the new adult and contemporaries that I read, it is refreshing to find something that grabs your attention.

Eden is headed to Texas for her spring break and she’s going alone. After her boyfriend for the past year breaks up with her 3 days before their spring break trip, she decides to go on it alone. When she gets to the booked resort and finds out her ex took the room, she is forced to stay at the dilapidated hotel down the road. Just when it seems like she’s about to have the worst week of her life, she meets the gorgeous, young hotel owner, Grey, and sparks fly.

I really liked Eden a lot and felt like she was a very strong character. She really knows how to handle herself and she doesn’t let tough times get her down. Instead, she always picks herself up and makes the best she can out of a crappy situation. I also really liked her confidence with Grey. She feels the chemistry between them and she isn’t afraid to pursue it. I also liked Grey as well but he definitely had a chip on his shoulder and I hate when guys are hot and cold, which he sometimes was. He has a lot on his plate and with all he’s been through, it is understandable that he would be overwhelmed but was moodier than a teenage girl on her period and that makes me crazy. I also felt like both he and Eden over-reacted to a couple situations they found themselves in and I wanted to slap both of them for their reactions. Eden is such a strong woman so I felt like her over-reaction was a bit out of character. Grey’s reaction to his situation was definitely something I would expect from him but it didn’t mean I had to like it.

There was real passion and chemistry between Eden and Grey and I could feel the sexual tension between these two characters. Grey is so closed off and Eden opens him up and really brings a little bit of life back to him. In turn, Grey shows Eden what real love is and really helps her see that her ex was never right for her. She could do so much better and Grey showed her what that was like. I really liked the way they worked together and the way Eden helped Grey with the hotel. She didn’t want to admit that she loved Grey, but by the end of the week, it was definitely obvious. Ultimately, Grey made the grand gesture and I loved it. It showed true growth in him and that might be my favorite part.

Overall, this was a light, fun and romantic read. I really liked that there wasn’t a lot of angst or clichés and it is definitely a great spring read. It really made me wish I was on a beach somewhere and I am definitely antsy for some warm weather now.
