Review: Breakable by Tammara Webber

Breakable
(Contours of the Heart #2)
Author: Tammara Webber
Publisher: Penguin Berkley
Publication Date: May 6, 2014
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary
Source: Purchased

~Synopsis~
He was lost and alone. Then he found her.
And the future seemed more fragile than ever.

As a child,
Landon Lucas Maxfield believed his life was perfect and looked forward to a future filled with promise — until tragedy tore his family apart and made him doubt everything he ever believed.

All he wanted was to leave the past behind. When he met
Jacqueline Wallace, his desire to be everything she needed came so easy…

As easy as it could be for a man who learned that the soul is breakable and that everything you hoped for could be ripped away in a heartbeat.

~Review~

I loved  Easy and it was definitely one of my top reads of 2013 so when I saw that Tammara was writing a story in Lucas' point of view, I knew I had to pick it up. While I loved Lucas and I enjoyed getting his perspective, I wasn't as enamored as I thought I would be. I wasn't disappointed but I felt like Breakable moved a lot slower and was a little harder to get into.

Lucas has been through a lot and we get a glimpse of his past struggles in Easy but Breakable really delves into his past and the events that lead him to where he was in the present. We know the tragedy involving his mother and that really shaped his youth and the experiences that he went through. Had he never lost his mother, it is obvious his life would have been so different. He would have been different. Lucas is strong, smart, hard working and caring. He shows all of these qualities in Easy but we get to see them shine through even more when it's in his perspective.

One thing I really liked about this book was getting into Lucas' head in terms of his feelings for Jackie. He comes across about distant and aloof in Easy but really he is just nervous because he likes her so much. He seems much more confident from Jackie's perspective than he really is when she is concerned. I also did enjoy the way it was written. While it was a retelling from his POV of the events in Easy, it also went into his past. I liked that it flipped back and forth between the past and present so we got a glimpse of the events that molded Lucas into the man he was in the present.

Overall, I did enjoy Breakable. While I felt like it moved a bit slow, it did pick up about half way through and I was much more intrigued and involved in the last half of the book. It was well written and flowed nicely, especially with the back and forth to the past and present. If you loved Lucas and Easy, I'd recommend this book. You may not love it as much but you'll still swoon over Lucas, maybe even more now.

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Last Second Chance by Caisey Quinn

Last Second Chance
Author: Caisey Quinn
Publication Date: May 6, 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Source: eARC via Inkslinger PR

~Synopsis~
When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she’s tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family’s ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?

What she didn’t count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn’t expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he’s famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella’s heart would be irreparable.

Van isn’t at Second Chance for publicity or because he’s suffering from “exhaustion”. He’s on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn’t sure she can give. But without her, he'll lose everything. Because he’s on his last second chance.

~Review~

Caisey Quinn has really done it again. She is such a fantastic author and she is fabulous at invoking so much emotion with her writing. She will break your heart and make you cry but then she’ll put you back together at the end. Last Second Chance is another emotional and heart wrenching story and Van and Stella Jo are 2 very broken characters who help each other out of the darkness.

Stella is beautiful, smart, hard-working and the perfect daughter. However, she feels lonely and empty inside. Her mother only sees her as a trophy, something to show off and her father hardly recognizes her existence. When she meets Van, something awakens inside of her, something that she has never felt before. Van is a troubled rocker and he’s one night away from losing everything or worse, losing his life. When he first enters rehab, he’s just there out of obligation but meeting Stella awakens something him in and makes him want to be a better man.

I really liked both Van and Stella. Van is a freaking mess and he’s the type of guy you don’t want to like. However, the more you learn about him and his past, the more you understand what’s going through his head. He has experienced great loss and my heart broke for him with each piece of his past that was revealed. He uses drugs and alcohol to numb his pain and make him forget. I loved the way he was with Stella and the way he wanted to be a better person. Van has been numb for so long and Stella makes him feel again. I loved that Stella isn’t judgmental. She knows who Van is, the addiction he struggles with and she wants to be there for him. Something about him calls to her and she wants to be in his corner. I also think Stella needs Van as much as he needs her. For the first time, she feels something and she doesn’t feel invisible or unwanted.

There are a lot of obstacles in for Van and Stella to overcome as they build a relationship. Their journey is tough and heartbreaking but I loved the way they fought through everything. They both discover a lot about each other and themselves and they help each other heal and grow. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the way the characters grew and developed. I felt like it flowed well and I was enthralled from the beginning to end. Caisey Quinn has done it again!

His Reverie Teaser

~Excerpt~
“Thirsty?” I jump at the sound of a soft female voice, my hand jerking so the hose splashes me right in the face. Muttering a curse, I drop the hose and reach out blindly, wrenching the faucet off with one hand as I swipe at my eyes with the back of the other. I hear the girl laugh and I whirl around, fully prepared to find some bratty preteen Hale daughter mocking me. But she’s not a preteen. Not even close. More like around my age. She’s tall and slender, her long blonde hair falling far past bared tan shoulders. She’s wearing some sort of sundress or whatever you call it and she’s pretty much covered since it hits just above her knees, though her arms are exposed since the dress is sleeveless. The sun catches her just right though, shining through the thin fabric of her skirt so I can see through it. My gaze drops and all I can see is long, long legs through the shadowy fabric. Damn. Those sexy legs are endless. She clears her throat, like she knows exactly where I’m looking and what I’m thinking and I jerk my gaze up guiltily to meet hers, feeling like a jackass. That’s when I notice her eyes are blue. As blue as the sky above us, and she’s so damn pretty, with delicate features and pink, pink lips, that I can’t seem to form words. “Who are you?” she asks curiously. Her voice washes over me, sweet and melodic and now it’s my turn to clear my throat to get the lump out so I can freaking speak. “Who are you?” I ask back like an idiot. She smiles shyly and my entire body reacts, a bolt of electricity seeming to go through me. “I asked first.” “Are you Hale’s daughter?” If she is, that sucks because holy hell she’s hot but yeah. She’s completely untouchable if she’s a Hale. “What if I am?” She kicks at the ground with her sandaled foot, her cheeks coloring the faintest pink. Innocence radiates from her. She looks like a damn angel and seems a little uncomfortable with me. Despite her seeming discomfort, I think she might be trying to flirt with me. “Well, I’d make sure and be extra polite to you since I work for your dad.” I go with the truth because I don’t want any problems from this girl. I probably shouldn’t even be alone with her. She could say anything, accuse me of something terrible and I’d have no defense. Her word against mine. And her word would win every single time. Another laugh escapes her and she slowly shakes her head. “I like your honesty.” I like everything about her so far but I keep my lips clamped shut. I’ve already said enough to make myself look like a total loser.“So I’m guessing you’re definitely Hale’s daughter?”

Trailer Reveal: Tease by Sophie Jordan

A born flirt and good-time party girl, Emerson has never had a problem finding a willing guy. She’s always chosen her hook-ups carefully, and she’s never broken her three cardinal rules:

·         Never let them see the real you.
·         Never fall in love.
·         Always leave them begging for more.

Then comes Shaw. A hottie from the wrong side of the tracks, he’s immune to her flirtatious banter and come-hither smile. After rescuing her from a disastrous night at a biker bar, he doesn’t even try to take her to bed-he calls her a tease and sends her home instead. Unable to resist a challenge, or forget the sexy dark-eyed bad-boy biker, she vows to bring him to his knees.

But instead of making Shaw beg, she finds herself craving him. For the first time in her life, she’s throwing out her rulebook. Suddenly, she’s the one panting for a guy she can’t control. A guy who won’t settle for anything less than the real Emerson, who forces her to do things she’s never imagined, including facing a past she thought she’d buried.

A guy who just might leave her wanting more . . .

~Synopsis~

Fall to You is the second book in the Here and Now series. It is not a stand-alone and is intended to be read following Lost in Me. Hanna’s story concludes in book three, All for This.

Torn between two men…

When I woke up after the accident, I couldn’t remember anything from the last year—including my relationship with Max Hallowell or anything about Nate Crane. Now my memories are returning, but instead of answering my questions, they’re leaving me with more.

The man who broke my heart and wants to be my future…

Max is all I ever wanted, and now he wants to marry me. He’ll do everything he can to fill my life with love, family, and security. I need those things now more than ever. But can I trust him?

The man who stole my heart and wants to let me go…

Nate never made me promises, and I never asked him to. I’d been on the rebound, looking for a distraction, and he made me feel beautiful and wanted when I needed to feel those things most. He says he has to let me go, but what if I can’t let go of him?

With every revelation and every passing day, I feel more like Alice down the rabbit hole. I’m falling. Who will catch me?

~Sneak Peek~

Three Months Before Hanna’s Accident

Nate

I haven’t slept all night with a woman next to me since before my son was born, yet here I am, holding her like I’m some closet romantic who doesn’t plan to send her on her way in a couple of hours. I loved every fucking minute of sleeping with her in my arms. I love how she reached for me in her sleep, how she rubbed her ass against my cock as if trying to wiggle a puzzle piece into place. And maybe a puzzle is the right analogy, because her body fits so damn perfectly against mine that I feel like something’s missing when she rolls away.
She’s on her back now, a hand reaching out, fingers resting on my bicep as if she’s afraid I might escape. The women I take to my bed tend to react that way, but I know it has little to do with my mad bedroom skills. For them, it’s about status, a notch in their bedpost of celebrities. What’s it about for Hanna?
The air conditioner cycles on, parting the curtains and bathing her in morning light that reminds me I should be urging her out of my bed. Only I don’t want her to go anywhere. I’m too enthralled by the dark smudge of her lashes against her cheeks and the soft parting of her full lips. She has these faint freckles across the bridge of her nose, another detail in this study in contrasts—the sweet, insecure virgin who doesn’t understand her own appeal and the wanton goddess who sucked me so hard and pulled my dick so deep she’s no doubt ruined me for all other blowjobs. And the way she responds when I touch her…
Hanna’s a virgin, but she was made for sex. Damn, how I envy the man who will get to introduce her to that pleasure. Will it be the ex? Max?
Something flames in my gut at the thought, but I ignore the flare of jealousy. She still loves him. I’m nothing more than the rebound guy, and I should be glad for that because I can’t offer her more than this.
“Mmm,” she moans, her eyes fluttering open and closed again as if she can’t quite convince them to greet the day. “What are you looking at?”
“You.”
She pats her hair before tugging the sheet up to cover her bare breasts. “Not much to look at before coffee. I’m probably a mess.”
“A beautiful mess,” I growl, tugging the sheet back down. “Don’t interrupt me. I was trying to play connect-the-dots with your freckles.”
She raises a brow but doesn’t try to re-cover herself. “How’s that work?”
“Well, they obviously start here,” I murmur, touching the bridge of her nose. “Then they pick up again here…” I drag my finger down her nose, over her soft lips, and to her collarbone, where a few more freckles are sprinkled.
“Not much of a treasure hunt.”
“Oh, you see, the amateur might think that’s the end of the trail, but I am an expert at connect-the-dots, and I don’t give up so easily.”
“Oh. Good. I was worried.”
I shake my head and press a quick kiss to her lips. “I won’t let you down. But are you ready for the next part?”
“I don’t know? Is it hangman? I’m not sure I want you playing hangman with my freckles.” Her smile damn near bowls me over.
“Still connecting the dots, but you see, it’s about intuition when the going gets tough like this, and for my intuition to work at its best, I need to stop searching with my fingers and take over with my tongue.”
She giggles. “Oh really?”
I climb on top of her, resting on my elbows, and she instinctively draws up her knees so my torso rests between her thighs. My cock aches, demanding that I slide up her body and get closer. Fuck. It wants more than to be close. It wants inside her. Tight and hot and deep. But I ignore it and lower my mouth to the freckles on her collarbone.
The taste of her skin on my tongue makes me hungry for more. I want to lick her clit again, to slide my tongue inside her until she loses control and rocks her hips in that sweet rhythm of fucking.
Instead, I trail my tongue down between her breasts and to the lone freckle beneath her sternum. “Found it,” I murmur before gently nipping her skin.
She arches toward my mouth. “Your tongue has a rather impressive intuition.”

“Oh, and it’s not even done yet.”

About the Author

Once a college English professor, I now write full time. I live in rural Indiana, where, when I'm not writing, I get to hang out with my husband and two kids--a six-year-old boy and a two-year-old hellion, er, girl. Not surprisingly, reading and writing remain my favorite activities, though both come in bits and pieces these days, not the big hunks of time I enjoyed before I had children. When I'm feeling virtuous, I like to go running (I use that word liberally. I'm really, really slow) or do yoga. Don't worry, I'm always careful to balance out such activities with a hearty serving of ice cream or a chocolate martini.

~Review~

There really aren't words to express my feelings for this book and this series as a whole. It has been one incredible journey and I am truly sad to say goodbye to Chloe, Jonah, Kellan and all of the other amazing characters. Heather is an extremely talented writer and this is by far one of my favorite series.

Since this is a final book in a series, I don't want to give away much for those who haven't read any of the books or haven't read this one yet but I will say that you will not be disappointed! Chloe, Jonah and Kellan have been through so much and in the end, someone will get their heartbroken. I love both of these boys so I know that it is killing Chloe to be in her position. She loves both of these brothers and while she knows in her heart that she made the right decision, it isn't easy loving another man or knowing that she broke his heart.

One of my favorite things about this series is the incredible plot. There is so much action and intrigue and I am also on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happy next. Will the elders be defeated? Who will Chloe choose? I was biting my nails with this one and a lot of stuff went down. I definitely went through a range of emotions and I was left with a book hangover for the ages. There were so many unexpected moments and I really think Heather did an amazing job of bringing the story together. It was heartbreaking but so beautiful and I think she did an incredible job with the ending.

Chelsea & Jessica Get Brazen! Tempting the Bodyguard by J. Lynn

Hey guys! So happy it's time to get Brazen again! This week we read Tempting the Bodyguard by J. Lynn.

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint...

He can protect her from everyone except himself.

Alana Gore is in danger. A take-no-prisoners publicist, her way with people has made her more than a few enemies over the years, but a creepy stalker is an entirely different matter. She needs a bodyguard, and the only man she can ask is not only ridiculously hot, but reputed to have taste for women that goes beyond adventurous.

Chandler Gamble has one rule: don't protect anyone you want to screw. But with Alana, he's caught between his job and his increasingly hard libido. On one hand, Alana needs his help. On the other, Chandler wants nothing more than to take the hot volcano of a woman in hand. To make her writhe in pleasure, until she's at his complete mercy.
She needs protection. He needs satisfaction. And the moment the line is crossed, all hell will break loose...

**************************************

Finally! Chandler's book is here! What did you think? Did you love it?

Jessica: YES! I thought it was such a great story. I really liked him and Alana together. They had some super sexy chemistry and the storyline was really action packed and fun.

Chelsea: I really liked this one! I not only loved Chandler and Alana together but I really enjoyed the plot in this one too.

Which Gamble brother would you say is your favorite?

Jessica: This is really hard. I really do love Chandler because he's a little bit naughty and a whole lot of sexy and sweet!

Chelsea: I really liked Chandler but I have to say that Chad is still my favorite brother.

If you were in danger, what traits would your personal bodyguard have to possess?

Jessica: Honestly? I would want an ex-soldier as a bodyguard. Their training really would make me feel secure. He also needs to be extremely good-looking and sexy. LOL. That would be an added perk.

Chelsea: I would want a really strong and sexy guy too LOL. That would probably complicate things but oh well. He would also need to be caring and compassionate.

There are a lot of steamy moments between Chandler and Alana in this one. Which sexy scene was your favorite?

Chelsea: I am admittedly a huge fan of shower scenes so I am going to have to go with their sexy scene in the shower towards the end of the book. It was sensual but also really hot!

Jessica: That was a great one! I am a sucker for naughty, forbidden trysts- so I loved their scene in her office!
Alana isn't exactly a favorite character in Tempting the Player. Did Tempting the Bodyguard change your perception of her?

Jessica: Definitely. I really didn't care for her in Tempting the Player because I didn't think what she was doing to Bridget was right and she was way too formal. This book really showed her layers and that she wasn't the heartless person we thought she was.

Chelsea: Absolutely! In this book we really got to know Alana and there is definitely more than meets the eye. She isn't the cold hearted bitch she is perceived to be.

How badly do you wish there were more Gamble Brothers?

Chelsea: I wish there was a whole brood of them. There could never be enough sexy, hot Gamble brothers. And, I need more books! LOL

Jessica: I'm right there with you girl! I love these men, so naturally I wish there were more! I'm not ready to let them go!

I am a huge fan of J. Lynn/Jennifer Armentrout and I think the Tempting series is probably my favorite Brazen series of them all. Tempting the Bodyguard did not fall short and not only did it meet my expectations, but if greatly surpassed them. While Tempting the Player has been my favorite so far, Tempting the Bodyguard was definitely the most developed of the three.

Chandler Gamble is the oldest Gamble brother and like Chad and Chase, relationships and commitment aren’t his forte. However, seeing Chad and Chase settle down has definitely shown Chandler that with the right woman, commitment isn’t a bad thing. Alana Gore is a ball busting publicist and she definitely comes across as a frigid bitch but when you dig deep down and get to know her, it’s clear that it is all just a façade to protect herself from getting hurt. While her methods may be questionable, she always has her client’s best interest at heart. When she starts getting some serious threats, the first person she thinks about going to is the sexy Gamble bodyguard. Little does she know that he’s been thinking about her too and things are about to combust.

I really liked getting to know Alana and learning more about her past and what makes her tick. She isn’t a real likable character in Tempting the Player so it was good to see that she has a vulnerable side and that there is more than meets the eye with her. She is all alone with no living family and that is difficult for her. It makes her put up walls and she is terrified of becoming like her mother so she pushes love away at all costs. Even though she fought hard against him, Chandler definitely opened her up and brought her out of her shell. Right from the beginning, she felt a special connection to him and she was more attracted than she had ever been in her life. That definitely scared her, especially when she started spending more time with him and really getting to know him.

As if 2 sexy hot Gamble brothers wasn’t enough, of course there has to be 3. Chandler is the oldest and he definitely shows that in his demeanor and the way he interacts with his brothers. Unlike Chad and Chase, Chandler isn’t afraid of commitment, he’s just never met anyone that made him want to settle down and he doesn’t waste time on relationships that he knows won’t go anywhere. For whatever reason, Alana gets under his skin immediately and he can’t shake her no matter how hard he tries. When she steps back into his life, needing his help, he doesn’t hesitate to make her his. He is a man that knows what he wants and goes after it. Alana brings out feelings he didn’t know existed and he wants nothing more than to show her how great they can be.

J. Lynn can write some sexy, steamy scenes and she does NOT hold back in this one. Chandler and Alana have some seriously HOT chemistry and it really jumps off the pages. She may have tried to hire him to protect her but he would have done it anyways. I liked how protective he was and the way he looked out for her and challenged her at the same time. He sees the real her and she opens up and allows him to. I liked how strong Alana was and I total understood her need to protect her heart. She hasn’t known much love in her life and she can see the power Chandler has to destroy her. While neither of them wanted or expected to fall in love, that’s exactly what they did. Alana is a runner but lucky for her Chandler likes to chase.

Overall, I loved this book and I devoured it. It had great characters and an intriguing plot. It flowed perfectly and was well developed. I really liked the little bit of mystery involved surrounding her stalker. I also loved seeing a little more of Chad, Chase, Maddie and Bridget. I’m going to miss these Gamble brothers!

I have been waiting for Chandler's book for a while now! After seeing his and Alana's brief meeting in Chad's book, I could not wait to read their story as I knew it would be fun, sexy, and downright HOT!

Pacing: I felt the pacing was great on this one. J.Lynn jumps right in with the attraction between Alana and Chandler, but it didn't feel forced at all. In fact, it was downright hot! Alana wants to hire him for his bodyguard services though- not his ah, other ones.

Storyline: The storyline in this one was a lot of fun. Being in public relations and repairing self images, Alana Gore hasn't earned the best reputation. She's damn good at her job, but the way she has gone about it hasn't always been the gentlest. She blackmailed Bridget, Chad Gamble's now fiancé and hasn't quite been forgiven.
After receiving threatening letters, she knows she has to do something as her safety is on the line. She gets in touch with the eldest Gamble brother to enlist his protection services. She goes to extreme lengths to track him down and I was dying laughing at how bold and brazen Alana is! Upon going to Chandler for his help, she knows a physical relationship with him would be highly inappropriate, but sometimes propriety be damned! The two get even closer as Alana's threats become more than just letters. Alana is quite headstrong and determined, but this stalker has got even her shaken up and Chandler won't let her endanger herself so he brings her to stay with him. I really like the suspense of finding out who was behind everything, even though I had my suspicions of who it was.

Their attraction and sexual tension is off the charts, but Alana has some deeper issues that keep her from going all in with Chandler.

Characters:  I really enjoyed Alana and Chandler. Chandler was such a great guy and I am so glad we got his book because he deserves happiness too. He's not jaded like his brothers are. He doesn't let his parents crap relationship affect his own. He has chosen not to do serious relationships, not because he felt he wasn't good enough for one, but just because he hasn't found the right one to settle down with. However, meeting Alana has really been the game changer for him. He loves her no-nonsense attitude and that she's tough as nails. However, Alana has a vulnerable side as we see here. She's a runner, as she's afraid of ending up like her mother, who was obsessed with the idea of being in love- only to have it break her heart. Alana tries her best to keep Chandler from getting too close, but when Chandler wants something- he goes after it!

Final Thoughts:  I enjoyed this one a lot. I love how sexy and steamy the romance was and the storyline was engaging from start to finish. J.Lynn is one of my auto-buy authors, as the woman can do no wrong!
