Release Day Blitz: Teaching Roman by Gennifer Albin

Jessica Stone has her life in perfect order until her perfectly boring boyfriend Brett puts things in perspective. So when she receives a call to action from her heartbroken best friend Cassie, she ditches her plans for Winter Break in gloomy Olympic Falls and sets off to Mexico for some fun in the sun.

Determined to use her oceanview to prep for her MCATS, she doesn't plan to run into anyone from Olympic State, least of all the cute communications prof she's been crushing on for a year. When he unexpectedly saves the day, the two are thrown together in a distinctly extracurricular activity.

Roman Markson doesn’t expect to run into anyone he knows from Olympic Falls while visiting his family in Puerto Vallarta, especially not a former student. Although Jess Stone has a way of catching men’s attention, a relationship with her is strictly off-limits. However, the rules feel less strict in Mexico, so they agree to a plan: one week in paradise and nothing more.

But avoiding each other back on campus is harder than they anticipated, especially when they can’t stay away from one another. Neither is sure what they have to learn—and lose—before life teaches them a lesson they’ll never forget.

Chelsea & Jessica Get Brazen! Falling for the Marine by Samanthe Beck

Hey guys! So happy it's time to get Brazen again! This week we read Falling For the Marine by Samanthe Beck!

Pretending to be in love has never felt so sexy.

USMC helicopter pilot Michael McCade has two goals: Get his damn back into alignment and keep his nose clean until his commanding officer clears him to fly again. The doctor-recommended massage therapy seems like a necessary step toward returning to the cockpit, but when his too-hot-to-handle neighbor, Chloe Kincaid, turns out to be his masseuse, he strays from the straight and narrow in a major way.

Chloe Kincaid is looking for a simple, no strings attached, ego-boosting hook up. But when her positively panty-melting neighbor, USMC Major Michael McCade, (aka Major Hottie), shows up on her massage table, she lets desire get the better of professionalism. Now theyre pretending to be engaged to avoid a whole lot of unanticipated consequences of a momentary lapse in judgment. But can a girl who avoids attachments at all costs fake an engagement to a straight-arrow soldier without falling hard?

**************************************

Our heroine finds herself in a very awkward position at the beginning of the novel- what is the most awkward thing that's happened to you in front of the opposite sex?

Jessica: Oh, wow. This is a hard question. Why can't I think of anything? I'm sure I have had some, but I've probably repressed them! All I can recall is Military Ball freshmen year. I had the biggest crush on a sophomore in my Spanish class, but we never really talked all that much. I went with a friend to the dance and some friends knew I was crushing on him, so they got him to ask me to dance, and we danced for like 2 seconds and he was like who are you here with? I told him and he led me over to him and was like, so you should be dancing with him. OMG. I was horrified. And so so embarrassed. The bright spot of the evening was a guy in my ROTC class and I danced and confessed he was too afraid to ask me to go and I was like, I wanted you to ask me! Sadly, we never started dating, but it was validating to know there was a guy who actually wanted to go with me, but was too chicken shit to ask.

Chelsea: That is such a cute story Jess! I had a hard time thinking of one myself though I'm sure there are tons of them. Coincidentally, today I was playing in a softball game and while running into home plate, I tripped over my feet and ate dirt hard. Everyone thought I was sliding but it looked so ungraceful. There were plenty of men at the game to witness my embarrassing plunge to the ground!

What is your favorite sexy scene in this one?
Chelsea:  I'm gonna have to go with the scene at the massage parlor. Not only was that super HOT but I was biting my nails with nerves waiting to see if they would get caught.
Jessica: The car scene! I do love a good car scene and the one at the bluffs overlooking the ocean? Holy hotness!

Jess- you've met all 3 McCade Brothers. Which one is your favorite?

Jessica: That is so hard! I do love them all. I think I'd have to say Trevor though. I just loved his and Kylie's story and his protectiveness of her is really sweet.

Chelsea- out of Trevor and Michael, which one do you prefer?

Chelsea:  I did love Trevor but I think I'm gonna have to go with Michael. I loved his playfulness and the way he stole Chloe's heart

If you could have a traveling job of sorts, what would it be?

Jessica: Landscape photographer! I love taking photos, so that would definitely take me to all parts of the globe!

Chelsea: Ooh, that's a good one! I think I'd want to be food journalist. I would love to travel the world, sampling food from different cultures and talking about it.

Chloe & Michael have a very sexy moment at her work place. Do you think you'd ever be able to have workplace sex?

Chelsea: I'm not gonna lie, I think it would be kind of hot to push all the papers off my desk and get a little naughty in my office. Of course, I am super paranoid and would probably be too worried about getting caught to actually do it but it's fun to think about!

Jessica: *cringe* That gives a whole new meaning to Hot For Teacher, doesn't it? I don't think I could. If I worked in an office, maybe. But my classroom? That would just be weird. And entirely too dangerous! I'm not adventurous, I know.

What did you think about the "fake dating" in the plot?

Chelsea Fake relationships are one of my favorite types of plots so I really liked it. It is always fun to see 2 characters build something real out of something that started out to be pretend.

Jessica: I liked it! I think it's always such a fun twist because I love seeing them struggle with their feelings and trying to figure out what's real and what's pretend!

It's been a while since Jess and I have been able to sit down and read a Brazen together but when we finally got a chance, we knew we needed to meet another McKade brother. I'm so glad we did! This book was incredible and I was hooked from beginning to end. I seriously did not want to put this one down. It was a quick read but it also had a well developed plot and some very intriguing characters. Oh, and it was STEAMY!!

Chloe has been through a tough heartbreak which has left her jaded on relationships. She always wanted the white picket fences but when it all falls apart, she decides freedom is the only way to go. As a traveling masseuse, she's just moved into her new assignment when she finds herself in a little predicament. Lucky for her, the sexy marine next door comes to her rescue. I liked Chloe. She is funny, smart and full of spunk. She is insanely attracted to Michael but she is also scared. She tried the relationship thing once and it was an epic fail.

Michael is an injured Marine and right now he wants nothing more than to get back to duty. That is until he meets his sexy neighbor, Chloe. He is definitely intrigued by her and certainly attracted. He offers to help Chloe out when she's in a bind and they end up fake engaged. I really liked Michael a lot. He is sexy, masculine and a real gentleman. He is so sweet with Chloe and I liked the way he helped her out and treated her.

This book was fun, sexy, heartwarming and an incredible read. The chemistry between Chloe and Michael was smokin' hot and I love a good fake relationship plot. Of course they are physically attracted to each other but as they get to know each other, they develop so much stronger feelings. Michael wants to develop these but Chloe is scared. I loved seeing Michael try to break down her walls and convince her how good they could be together. Chloe was a tough nut to crack and sometimes I wanted to strangle her for not seeing what was right in front of her. However, considering her past, understand her reservations and I was glad to see her finally open her heart to him.

I just adore Samanthe Beck! She is definitely one of my favorite Brazen authors and she NEVER disappoints! Her books are always so good and SO sexy! Not only does she create a sexy, steamy book, she also develops characters that you will really love and enjoy!

I absolutely LOVE how Michael and Chloe meet. It is so awkwardly hilarious! All I'll tell you is that it involved some handcuffs, a bed, and no key. Hah! The two are neighbors and Michael helps Chloe out after a failed seduction attempt on her part. They are both definitely attracted to one another, and end up meeting again, as she is a massage therapist and Michael has really messed up his back. Attraction runs rampant with these two and they find they can't keep their hands off one another.... no matter WHERE they might be. This obviously causes problems for Chloe, and Michael, being one of the most honorable men I've read about, offers to let her stay with him. The one tiny string that comes with this offer? They must pretend they are engaged, as his CO really looks down on cohabitation. Now, Michael and Chloe find themselves caught in a charade that is escalating rather quickly. What feels like an act starts to feel like a hell of a lot more....

Chloe is a pretty strong-willed character. Having been tied down to a husband that cheated on her, she now wants nothing more than to be a free spirit. No strings, no attachments... She hasn't been with anyone else since the divorce and now fate would bring Major Hottie Michael McCade to her doorstep. She always said she would never date a military man because of how her father always put the Corps first and never his family. Staying away from Michael proves to be quite the undertaking... he is patient, kind, encouraging and he is looking for more stability in his life. He wants a home, a family.... He's never been in that all-consuming love before, but he wants it and I love that he isn't afraid to admit it.

Getting to know each other becomes so much more than just a game. Chloe finds herself falling hard for Michael and is desperate to get away. She is afraid of what being in love again will mean and she can't handle Michael growing bored and cheating on her like her ex-husband did. She thinks running away will keep her heart intact, but little does she know she's already lost it....

You're in for a fun, sweet, sexy ride with Falling For the Marine! There are a few scenes I couldn't help but laugh out loud and there were others I felt myself get a bit misty-eyed. I definitely recommend this to my fellow romance lovers!

Swoon-worthy Romance! Make it a Double by Sawyer Bennett

Last Call #2
Publisher: Big Dog Books, LLC
Publication Date: April 21, 2014
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Source: Purchased via Amazon

~Synopsis~
Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

~Review~
This book brought me back to life. I had been in a reading slump for a while but when I picked up Make it a Double, I felt like my old self again. I was sucked in and entranced throughout the entire book. I am so madly, deeply in love with Brody that it's not even funny. He stole my heart and no other book boyfriend has been able to capture since then.

Brody has been through a tough five years and now he is just trying to find a new normal in his life. He is definitely not the same man he was and that had taken a toll on his relationships with his family. He is a bit bitter, jaded and sullen. He doesn't want anyone's help, especially Alyssa. He sees her as a spoiled, rich girl and because of his past, this rubs him the wrong way. The problem is, Brody doesn't really know her and he's making a snap judgement. I totally understood his anger, considering all he has been through but I wanted to knock him upside the head for they way he judged her in the beginning.

Alyssa comes from a very wealthy family but she is definitely not a spoiled brat. She is so sweet and humble and she doesn't want to be defined by her family wealth. She is so down to earth and she wants to use her money to do good things. She opens an animal shelter and uses her money to make it an exceptional place for misplaced animals to go. I tried to volunteer at an animal shelter once and after the first day, I couldn't go back. I almost cried and there was no way I could see these animals like this day in and day out. However, I loved that Alyssa was able to build a state of the art facility that wouldn't make the shelter more of a home for these animals.

Brody and Alyssa definitely have some chemistry but it's not something that is instant. Brody is kind of a dick to Alyssa at first and he makes a lot of assumptions about her. I really liked the way she held her own against him though when he treated her poorly. She was able to prove to him pretty quickly that she is not who he thought she was and then he becomes intrigued. What I loved most was how volunteering at the shelter and getting to know Alyssa healed Brody. He was able to find his way back to the man he was before and while he will never be the same, he realized that he still has a lot of life to live and he can be happy again. Alyssa showed him that. My favorite thing about this book was the development of their relationship. It wasn't fast paced or instant love. They really had to get to know each other to get past their judgments and really fall for each other.

Overall, this was an amazing book and probably one of my favorites for the year so far. While I loved the first book, On the Rocks, Make it a Double was even more spectacular. The development of Brody and Alyssa as characters as well as their relationship together was incredible. I also really liked the plot and Sawyer did a great job of adding a little suspense and drama in there to make it intriguing and a real page turner.

Ben
I love the angry ones. Of course, anyone who knows me would argue that I love any and all women, and I can’t exactly disagree. But I love the angry ones the most. They’re a challenge to be conquered, the reason for their fury usually fitting neatly into three buckets: insecure, scorned, hormonal. And this chick gazing up at me with fire in her caramel eyes? I’m betting on bucket number two. “My, what an awfully bright red shirt you have on,” she pushes out between gritted teeth, as if she’s trying to be polite but can’t hide her disdain. I didn’t know what I was walking into when the punk-rock chick with the crazy-ass muscular body waved us over, but her friend with the purple hair and her back to me had me intrigued. Now that I’m getting a good look at her face, I know who I’m spending my last night with in Cancún. She’s not what some would call traditionally “pretty.” Her eyes are slightly too big and far apart, her nose is slightly too long and slender, and her lips—though nice and wide—are on the thin side. Yet something about all of that put together makes her sexy as hell. Maybe it’s the little nose ring. Or maybe it’s the way her decent-sized tits are pressing up against me, her low V-neck tank top—a casual shirt, telling me she’s not trying to pick anyone up—giving me a fine view of her cleavage. Whatever it is, my dick is certainly pleased. “You like it?” I ask. An irritated glare flickers to the material. “No.” I can’t help but chuckle at her candor. “Will you at least give me a head start before you gore me?” Those thin lip curls into a condescending smirk. “Bulls don’t see color. That’s a myth.” The only thing I love more than an angry girl is a smart, angry girl. This is going to be fun. “Well, how about I solve the problem for you.” I take a step back from her and swiftly yank my shirt off, exposing six days of suntanned skin and an upper body that I know looks damn appealing because I work my ass off to keep it that way. The random catcalls from the tables around confirm it. And then I simply stand there and grin like the cocky ass that I am as Angry Girl can’t keep her eyes from scanning the muscles I’ve honed since my college football days, her lips parting ever so subtly. I see the shift in her, the moment where she realizes that, though she’d prefer to castrate the entire male species right now, she can’t ignore her attraction to me. At least, that’s what I want to see.

There may be spontaneous combustion from all the sexy! ~ARC Review: Losing Control by Jen Frederick

Kerr Chronicles #1
Publisher: Pear Tree, LLC
Publication Date: June 16, 2014
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Source: eARC via author

~Synopsis~
I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian's whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that's okay.

~Review~

I am a huge fan of Jen and I will read anything she writes. I adore the Woodland series so it breaks my heart to say this but... Losing Control was her best book yet! She knocked it out of the park on this one. It was so well developed and I really connected with the characters.

Tiny is dealing with a lot but she is so loyal and loving and I really loved the way she looked after her mother. She has such a big heart and she will do anything to help save her mom. My heart really went out to Tiny because her mom is all she has and to watch her succumb to cancer was very difficult for her. Tiny is really strong and I loved her independence. Despite the things that could hold her back, she doesn't allow them to bring her down. She just works twice as hard. When Ian walks into her life and offers her the world, she wants to resist but he makes it pretty damn impossible.

Ian, oh dear sweet sexy as hell Ian. He is HOT, rich, smart, sexy and he wants Tiny. He has a very special job that he needs done and he isn't sure he wants Tiny for the job at first but it might be the only way he can have her. He's very wealthy but he's self made and I love that about him. He isn't entitled or arrogant and that made him that much more swoon-worthy. Ian is also mysterious and he clearly has an agenda he is working. He wants revenge but the more he falls for Tiny, the harder it is for him to use her to get it.

Tiny and Ian have some seriously HOT chemistry; like spontaneously combustible chemistry. Their attraction and sexual chemistry was intense and immediate. Tiny really fought it and I'll give the girl credit because she put up a good one but her and Ian were inevitable. She really wants to stand on her own and accepting everything Ian offers her is really hard. This quality only feeds Ian's attraction to her and he falls hard. When Tiny succumbs to his charms, they have some incredibly steamy moments. Jen really knows how to write a scene that makes you squirm a bit and flame the cheeks. I felt like she really did a great job of mixing mystery and romance.

There were so many incredible things about this book and I was more than impressed by this book. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading but it definitely exceeded any expectations that I had. The character development was well done and I really got a sense of who Tiny was. Ian is a bit of a mystery but that is to be expected with the plot and I liked the way Jen handled it. I also found the plot to be really well developed and there was a lot of depth to it. This is a series so this book only scratched the surface behind Ian's desire for revenge because this book was meant to introduce us to Tiny and Ian and really develop their relationship. I can't wait to see what's next with Taking Control!

Better When He's Bad

Genre: New Adult

~Synopsis~
Welcome to the Point

There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.

Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.

Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

~Review~
Bax is a bad boy; an honest to God real bad boy. This is a new series by Jay Crownover and I think she did an excellent job with it. While it's very different from the Marked Men Series, her excellent writing style is still there and I think she developed an excellent plot. It took me a bit to get into because Bax is such a different male lead than I'm used but I quickly got hooked as the plot and characters developed.

Bax has just got out of prison and he's out to get even and find out why he ended up there in the first place. Of course he was no saint and he was definitely a criminal but ending up in prison was no accident and he wants some answers. Bax is cold. He doesn't get close to people and he doesn't care about anyone but himself. Or so he wants everyone to think. However, the more you get to know him, the more you can see that he does care about a few people, he just has a hard way of showing it. He has a very tough exterior and he doesn't let anyone break through. Until he meets Dovie.

Dovie grew up in the same environment as Bax but instead of succumbing to the life, she has dreams of making it out and living a better life. Her attitude is the exact opposite of Bax's and that throws him off. He's never met someone from the same background with the pureness that Dovie carries. Without his consent, she penetrates his thick skin and buries herself inside. Dovie sees the good deep down inside Bax and she wants him to know that she sees it. Despite her feelings, Bax still terrifies Dovie and her feelings for him terrify her even more.

I really enjoyed the development of Bax and Dovie's relationship and I liked that Bax never gave her any pretense that he would change or be any different than he was. Dovie loved him for who he was because she saw the good that is in there despite the bad that he only ever showed. I loved that Bax isn't some reformed bad boy. He is a guy that never makes excuses for the things he's done. He knows who he is and he never pretends to be anyone else, even with Dovie. I really enjoyed the plot of this book and I liked the way the story flowed. It had a bit of mystery to it and Jay did a great job of dangling it in front of me in a way that made me want to keep reading to find out how everything was going to play out.

  EXCERPT:
I let out the breath I was holding and took another step closer to her. The water was splashing on the sleeve of my shirt as I reached up to grab both of her cheeks in my palms. “Are you scared of me?” It was the start of the questions I had asked her what felt like a lifetime ago. Her answer didn’t change, but this time when she answered, she was holding back a smile that made my heart hurt. “Terrified, but I kind of like it now.” “Do you trust me?” My voice broke. I had never really trusted anyone but Race and now there was her and my brother and just all kinds of new things making my life so much more complicated and undeniably fuller. “With my life. I trust all the parts of you, Bax. You need to know that.” “You going to go to bed with me?” That made her outright laugh and she reached up to curl her hands around my wrists. “As often as I can and anyplace in between when the mood strikes.” The rest of the blood racing around my system went solidly south. I dropped my forehead so it was resting on hers and the water from the showerhead was cascading down around us. I was making a mess, but I didn’t care because I had her, and she was my home. “Do you love me?” The words sounded so foreign, but so right, when I was saying them to her. She brushed her full lips across mine and the last three months without her faded away. “Do you want me to lie to you or tell you the truth?” I smiled against her mouth and kissed her back twice as hard as she had kissed me. “Lie to me.” She reached up and put her arms around my neck and took a step back, dragging me all the way into the shower stall with her. The water was lukewarm at best, and it made me shiver. So did the fact that she started to impatiently pull the tail of my shirt up over my head. A task made increasingly difficult considering I was now soaked head to toe and the material was clinging to me. “Of course not. You’re the last person in the world I could love.”
