~Synopsis~
Most people dream about getting out of Sharon, Nebraska, but after three years away, Lauren Barrett is coming home. There are the justifications she gives to everyone else—missing her family, losing her college scholarship. And then there’s the reason Lauren can’t admit to anyone: Rob Conrad, her best friend’s older brother. Football prowess and jaw-dropping good looks made Rob a star in high school. Out in the real world, his job and his relationships are going nowhere. He can’t pinpoint exactly what’s missing until Lauren comes back to town, bringing old feelings and new dreams with her. But he’s the guy that women love and leave—not the one who makes them think of forever. Though she’s terrified of opening up, Lauren’s ready to take that chance. Because the only thing more important than figuring out where you truly belong is finding the person you were meant to be with.

AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME on Goodreads

   ~Excerpt~
Mom was asleep, so I checked my email. I had the usual spam, plus notes from all my former roomies, which made me happy. I missed all of them, even Max, though things were unspeakably awkward between us at the end. I opened Nadia’s first: LB! You know I miss you like crazy, right? Courtney’s in your bed right now, and she has completely alphabetized my books. I’m pretty sure there will be a lending library program implemented the next time I get home from work. So how’s Nebraska? Did you find a job yet? Have you started applying to any schools? I have like ten more questions but you’ll get grumpy if I dump them on you all at once. Hug and kiss my family for me, okay? Write back soon or I’m sending my brother to track you down. She didn’t mention the hot single dad she’d broken up with right before I left. Mr. Hot Ginger had dumped Nadia for her own good, which would drive her quietly crazy. I’d felt horrible about the timing, but there was little I could do about it. I hadn’t gotten to know him well before I left, but Ty seemed like a good guy. He was only a few years older than us, but already had a four-year-old. That was the crux of the conflict. Writing back, I didn’t quite nail the tone, talking about Rob too much and inventing interesting anecdotes because there was so little going on. I could’ve mentioned Krista, but Nadia had never been as close to her, and there was some tension by the time she moved. Mostly I didn’t want Nadia to worry; things would be fine once I got a job and had less time to fret about whether I’d made the right decision. I opened Angus’s email next: Hey, you. Got your check. It appears not to be rubber, but I said you didn’t have to pay me back. I hate you for leaving. Come back right now. I’ll wait. This is me, waiting. It’s been at least five minutes. You’re shattering my faith in humanity, Lauren. Take responsibility for it! Not sure what you’ve heard from Nadia, but she’s such a hot mess. I can’t believe you abandoned us. All the light has left my life. All of it! Okay, enough drama. I’m working on getting over Josh. Classes suck but I will survive. (You’re singing it now, aren’t you?) “Damn you, Angus Starr. You know me too well.” I got up on my bed with a hairbrush and sang two verses before reading on. In all seriousness, there is a Lauren-sized hole in my life. Please don’t lose touch. Write soon. Love and hugs, Angus. It was simpler writing back to Angus; our friendship was sweet and uncomplicated. Briefly I considered deleting Max’s email without opening it, but that seemed like an asshole move. In the end, I read it, two lines only: I’m sorry about everything. Take care of yourself.

~Synopsis~
According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you're friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it.

With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player. With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her.

Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time. But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want.

  ~Excerpt~
An exhale of breath leaves Brandon’s lips, almost like a laugh, and he scoots closer to me on the blanket. I twist my legs under myself, sitting tall as I face him. He cups my chin and tilts it toward him, drowning me in the now dark-green depths of his eyes, the cologne I gave him for his birthday filling my head. It’s woodsy and yummy and I always loved how it smelled on the store testers, but on Brandon, it’s even sexier. My eyes flutter closed, and I inhale again, this time slowly. Goose bumps prickle my arms, and my head gets fuzzy. Brandon slides his hand down the column of my neck and brings the other up, threading his fingers through the hair at my nape. His breath fans across my cheek, and everything south of my bellybutton squeezes tight. When his mouth first meets mine, it’s hesitant, questioning. But as I move my lips with his, he quickly grows bolder, coaxing them apart. Desire, pure and raw, electrifies my veins as his tongue sweeps my mouth. A whimpering sound springs from my chest, and instinctively, I wrap my arms around his neck, tugging him closer. Needing more. My teeth graze his full bottom lip, and I pull it, sucking on it gently. He moans and knots his fingers in my hair, and a thrill dances down my back. Brandon is an amazing kisser, just as I knew he would be. I have no control over my body’s reactions. I lose myself in his lips, his tongue, and his strong arms, forgetting time and space and even my surroundings—until Gabi’s snicker brings reality crashing around us, reminding me we have an audience. And that I’m kissing Brandon. We break apart, out of breath, and stare into each other’s eyes. That was unexpected.

Musicians, artists, actors—they use her to advance their art, and she uses them to survive. She moves from one artist to the next, never staying long enough to get attached. But all she wants is a different life— a normal one. She’s spent thousands of years living lie after lie, and now she’s ready for something real. Sweet, sexy, and steady, Wilder Bell feels more real than anything else in her long existence. And most importantly… he’s not an artist. He doesn’t want her for her ability. But she can’t turn off the way she influences people, not even to save a man she might love. Because in small doses, she can help make something beautiful, but her ability has just as much capacity to destroy as it does to create. The longer she stays, the more obsessed Wilder will become. It’s happened before, and it never turns out well for the mortal. Her presence may inspire genius. But it breeds madness, too.

Release Day Launch: Temper for You by Genna Rulon

Today is the release day for Temper For You by Genna Rulon. This is the third and final installment in the For You Series. I absolutely love this series and can't wait to read Meg's story. Check it out for yourself!

~Synopsis~

"Life is messy. Love is messier." -Catch and Release

Meg Adeio has led a life of isolation—not by choice, by necessity—until one act of heroism forces her out of seclusion. Despite a past shrouded in mystery, Meg is “adopted” by an eclectic group of friends that become the family she never had. Life was good for the first time in…ever.

Or it was until Westly Black reappeared on her doorstep. She knew he was the last man any woman should give her time to—only good for one thing—yet a temptation no woman could deny. Wes might make her life messy, but Meg’s eyes were wide open and she had it under control. At least she thought she did.

When past and present collide, loyalties are tested, forcing Meg to sacrifice her future to protect those she loves.

Temper For You is a gripping story of regret, deception, and redemption – filled with raw emotion, sarcastic wit, intrigue, and love’s propensity to forgive.

• Though Temper For You is a part of the For You Series, it can be read as a stand alone
• This story is appropriate for readers 18+

~Excerpt~
I may have slept, but I didn’t rest.  My dreams were plagued by warm caramel eyes that promised endless hours of yet unknown satisfaction.  Damn the man.  He was the single most beautiful creature I had ever seen…devastating, that was the word for him.  If the whole sleazebag-lawyer thing didn’t work out, there’s no doubt Calvin Klein or Armani would be knocking down his door.  His defined bone structure with high cheek bones, prominent jaw, and strong brow were every woman’s fantasy.  And his lips…I wanted to bite those full, luscious lips.  Add the chocolate brown hair that begged to be pulled while locked in an undulating embrace…irresistible!
What was wrong with me?  I knew he was a conscienceless miscreant.  Shouldn’t that knowledge work as a sedative to my recently awakened—and usually dormant—sex drive?  But no, my otherwise mute inner hussy jumped up and down, shouting like a drunken sorority girl after losing her third game of flip-cups, every time he entered a room.
It had taken months after I’d learned who he was and what he had done to force him from my mind.  I lied to my friends, pretending to dismiss him without a second thought, but I couldn’t lie to myself—I still craved him in an unfamiliar and overwhelming fashion.
And now he was going to live next door.
We didn’t even have a few feet of lawn separating us…no, he was a narrow flower bed away.  I could only wonder what I had done to piss off the bitch known as karma to justify this turn of events.
That’s a lie.
I knew what I had done, and I deserved every torturous moment.
Lying alone in my bed last night, I could practically feel his presence seeping through the sheetrock, tormenting me.  As my hand slid down my stomach in response, I chided myself before firmly tucking both hands beneath my pillow to ward off any temptation.  Subsequently, I spent the next hour debating the merits of moving out before vowing not to let him run me off.
He. Would. Not. Win.
Yep, a double dose of chocolate was necessary this morning.

~Excerpt~
As I lay there, trying to swallow a loud, obnoxious yawn, I remembered something he’d said when we first met, about life being too short. I imagined he had firsthand experience with shortened lives while he was serving. That mentality came from experience. I got that now. Could even understand it, but there was something I didn’t understand. “Why?” I asked. There was a beat. “Why what?” Jax sounded tired, and I should shut up or point out that I was now tired and could sleep, so he could leave. But I didn’t. “Why are you here? You don’t know me and . . .” I trailed off, because there really wasn’t anything left to say. A minute went by, and he hadn’t answered my question, and then I think another minute ticked on, and I was okay with him not answering because maybe he didn’t even know. Or maybe he was just bored and that was why he was here. But then he moved. Jax pressed against my back, and the next breath I took got stuck in my throat. My eyes shot open. The sheet and blanket were between us, but they felt like nothing. “What are you doing?” I asked. “Getting comfortable.” He dropped an arm over my waist, and my entire body jerked against his. “It’s time to sleep I think.” “But—” “You can’t sleep when you talk,” he remarked. “You don’t need to be all up on me,” I pointed out. His answering chuckle stirred the hair along the back of my neck. “Honey, I’m not all up on you.” I freaking begged to differ on that point. I started to wiggle away, but the arm around my waist tightened, holding me in place. “You’re not going anywhere,” he announced casually, as if he wasn’t holding me prisoner in the bed. Okay. The whole prisoner thing might be melodramatic, but he wasn’t letting me up. Not when he was getting all kinds of comfy behind me. Oh my God, this was spooning. Total spooning. I was spooning with an honorary member of the Hot Guy Brigade. Did I wake up in a parallel universe? “Sleep,” he demanded, as if the one word carried that much power. “Go to sleep, Calla.” This time his voice was softer, quieter. “Yeah, it doesn’t work that way, Jax. You have a nice voice, but it doesn’t hold the power to make me sleep on your command.” He chuckled. I rolled my eyes, but the most ridiculous thing ever was the fact that after a couple of minutes, my eyes stayed shut. I . . . I actually settled in against him. With his front pressed to my back, his long legs cradling mine, and his arm snug around my waist, I actually did feel safe. More than that, I felt something else—something I hadn’t felt in years. I felt cared for . . . cherished. Which was the epitome of dumb, because I barely knew him, but feeling that, recognizing what the warm, buzzing feeling was, I fell right asleep.

Stay With Me Teaser 2

Review: In Her Wake by K.A. Tucker

If you haven't read Ten Tiny Breaths and don't want it to be spoiled, then please don't read this review or the synopsis!

Publisher: Atria Books
Publication Date: September 1, 2014
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary
Source: eARC via NetGalley

~Synopsis~
Before you knew him as Trent in Ten Tiny Breaths, he was Cole Reynolds—and he had it all. Until one night when he makes a fatal, wrong decision…and loses everything.

When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he’d be able to lean on his best friends—the ones who have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they’re gone. Worse, there’s the shattered body of a sixteen-year-old girl lying somewhere in a hospital bed, her entire life ripped from her because of a case of beer and a set of keys.

Everyone assures him that they know it wasn’t intentional, and yet he can’t ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. Nor can he shake the all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won’t so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip on what once was important—college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It’s not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness.

And there’s only one person who can give that to him…

~Review~

I try not to put any spoilers in my reviews but this is a difficult one to write without possibly giving something away. I'll do my best but just in case, you've been warned.

This series is one of my favorites and I loved that K.A. went back to the beginning and gave us Trent's backstory and how he ended up in Kacie's life in Ten Tiny Breaths. I found this book to be so beautifully written and heartbreaking at the same time. Trent and Kacie have both been through so much pain and turmoil in their lives and finding each other is what helped them heal.

We know a little about what Trent has been through from Ten Tiny Breaths but K.A. really digs into the details with this book and gives us a better understanding of the decisions he's made and what brought him to Kacie. He is very troubled and it takes him a long time and a lot of work to claw his way out of the hole he put himself in. He really struggles in the beginning to deal with the events that irrevocably changed his life and set him on his future path.

I really liked seeing the relationship that Trent has with his parents as well. They are clearly loving and supporting and seeing Trent go through a tough time was hard on them as well. They didn't know how to handle his sudden change in attitude and demeanor and they fought a lot about it. They wanted their son back and they did everything in their power to help him through. In the end, forcing him to get help was what brought him back to a somewhat normal state and helped him try to begin healing.

While Trent's motivations seem a bit crazy to those on the outside, In Her Wake allows us to see where his head and heart were at so we can get a different perspective on his actions. I adored Trent before but now I find him even more spectacular because I know what he truly went through and what led him to be the man he is now.

Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny.

Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her. But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Back to Blogging~ The end of my slump is near!

For the past several months, I have been in a bit of a blogging slump. I LOVE my blog and all of the amazing readers, bloggers and incredible friends I have met. However, I have been through several life changes over the last year and it's really affected my reading and blogging. I hate that I struggle to put together a review and that I'm barely able to pick up a book and read. I hate that I haven't spent hardly any time on twitter talking books or visiting blogs and discussing new and old reads. I'm ready to climb out of this slump, write some reviews and discuss books again!

That being said, I've decided to make a few changes upon my return. I've decided to participate in way less tours, meaning maybe only 1 or 2 a month if that. I realized that I burnt myself out by always feeling pressured and under a time constraint to read and review my books. I want to give these authors the time and love that their books deserve and I feel I do that best when I read at my own leisure. I'll still be doing release day launches and cover reveals because I love helping authors promote their new books and getting the word out. I've also decided that I would like to try and add a couple memes each week to help mix up the content of my blog. I'm looking forward to dedicating some real time over the next month to revamp and get back to it.

Above all else, I want to say THANK YOU! Thank you to all of my followers for sticking with me and being patient while I go through this period in my life. Thanks for still stopping by even though the content has been less than thrilling and far and few between. Thank you to all my amazing blogging friends for being there for me and being my friend first and foremost. You know who you are and you know how much I love and appreciate your support. You girls are some of my very best friends!!
