ARC Review: All or Nothing by Lexi Ryan

Publisher: Lexi Ryan
Publication Date: November 3, 2014
Genre: New Adult
Source: eARC via Author

~Synopsis~
**ALL OR NOTHING is a short, sexy, new adult romance and is also available as part of the ALL I EVER WANTED anthology.**

After years of placing the wrong bets, all Aubree Baxter ever wanted was someone to take a chance on her. More specifically, she wants golden boy Kennedy Hale, her good friend and unrequited crush. After a seduction attempt gone terribly wrong, she knows pursuing anything more than friendship with Kennedy means sure heartbreak. If they're going to make this work, it has to be ALL OR NOTHING.

~Review~

I'm a huge fan of Lexi so I was super excited to read her novella, All or Nothing, when presented with the opportunity. All or Nothing is an Abbot Springs Romance that was previously part of the All I Ever Wanted anthology.

Lexi's story is about Kennedy and Aubree. They have been best friends since childhood but Bree has always been in love with Kennedy and when she takes a chance and her feelings aren't returned, she is heartbroken. She decides to still come home for the Winter Festival, with the hope that her mom will make an appearance this year. She comes face to face with Kennedy and they are forced to work out their feelings for each other.

Bree is a wild card; always running to the next town or next adventure. She doesn't hold down a job or a boyfriend easily. I think she gets restless because she has a mother who make absent promises and a father who wasn't around much. On top of that, she's always loved Kennedy so no other man can capture her heart.

Kennedy is the golden boy of Abbott Springs, expected to be the Mayor like his father and take over his father's business. However, he wants to be his own man and pursue his own dreams but can't seem to find the courage to tell his father how he feels. I feel like he is a bit clueless because it seems so obvious that Bree loves him but he can't see it himself.

I liked that Bree and Kennedy are so different that it make them perfect for each other. Bree needs Kennedy to ground her and Kennedy needs Bree to free him. When he finally opens his eyes and discovers his real feelings for her, I think that it really opened Bree up a bit. I feel like she never really felt loved because of the way her parents are so having someone who she loves genuinely love her back really opened her eyes. She could finally stop running because she was back where she always belonged.

~Quotes from Victor~

“Sometimes I wish I could just change my last name.”

“Ah, yes. You and I will find some kind of secret lab in the basement of the Institute, and we’ll devolve into madness together.” He rubs his hands together before holding them up in the air.
“Bwhahaha! Think of the damage we can do! We can play croquet with some corpse limbs down there, drinking tea like we’re with the Queen. I’ll make us a mad, dead tea party of our own.”

~Excerpt~
“This is bloody uncomfortable.” Victor raps on the metal shielding his chest. “How does anybody ever get used to it?”
“You get used to it,” Ferz Eponi says from nearby, “when it saves your life, lad.”
“Do they talk?”
The Ferz is confused by Victor’s question. “Do who talk?”
“The horses!”
“No, Doctor. They’re horses.”
Finn’s brother turns to me. “Am I wrong? There are talking animals who are soldiers in this encampment. The Nightrider is a unicorn after all. He talks.” He pauses. “Does he ride horses?”
Several of the soldiers around us—both human and animal—glower at Victor’s commentary.
I end up hushing him.

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Letting Go by Molly McAdams

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Letting Go by Molly McAdams, hosted by bookslapped. Check out my review below and enter the giveaway!

~Synopsis~

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author returns with a sizzling novel of love, loss, guilt, and forgiveness.

Grey and Ben fell in love at thirteen and believed they’d be together forever. But three days before their wedding, the twenty-year-old groom-to-be suddenly died from an unknown heart condition, destroying his would-be-bride’s world. If it hadn’t been for their best friend, Jagger, Grey never would have made it through those last two years to graduation. He’s the only one who understands her pain, the only one who knows what it’s like to force yourself to keep moving when your dreams are shattered. Jagger swears he’ll always be there for her, but no one has ever been able to hold on to him. He’s not the kind of guy to settle down.

It’s true that no one has ever been able to keep Jagger—because he’s only ever belonged to Grey. While everyone else worries over Grey’s fragility, he’s the only one who sees her strength. Yet as much as he wants Grey, he knows her heart will always be with Ben. Still they can’t deny the heat that is growing between them—a passion that soon becomes too hot to handle. But admitting their feelings for each other means they’ve got to face the past. Is being together what Ben would have wanted . . . or a betrayal of his memory that will eventually destroy them both?

~Review~

Letting Go was a powerful story of loss, love and moving forward. Grey and Ben have been together since they were 13 and 2 days before their wedding, Ben dies unexpectedly. Grey and Ben's best friend Jagger are left behind to pick up the pieces and grieve their loss. Jagger is the only person that really understands what Grey is going through and he is the only person that doesn't treat her like she's breakable.

I really love Jagger. He is sweet, kind, charming and so protective of Grey. He has been in love with her since they were kids and always hoped she would see him differently. Ben swooped in and took Grey before Jagger ever had a chance to tell her how he felt. I think he was so noble because he stood back and let them be happy. He never tried to come between them or tell them how he felt. He was a true friend to both Grey and Jagger.

Grey is really struggling to move on after Ben dies. She doesn't know how and when she finally finds out how Jagger feels about her and realizes she feels the same, she definitely harbors some guilt. I totally understand why because she feels wrong for moving. However, all of her friends and family tell her it's okay to move on and Ben would want her to be happy. I was really glad to see that she took that to heart and realized they were right.

I really loved the development of Grey and Jagger's relationship. Someone is trying to sabotage them and using Grey's vulnerability from Ben to do it. I liked that Jagger continued to support her even when he felt like he was losing her. He helped her get through a really tough time in her life and showed her that it's okay to be happy and love again.

Overall, I felt that this book was really well written. Molly really made me feel the emotions that Grey and Jagger felt. The plot was relate-able and definitely realistic. Jagger is a man any woman would want and I definitely fell in love.

About the Author:
Molly McAdams grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry daughter. Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach, which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When she's not at work, she can be found hiding out in her bedroom surrounded by her laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm...or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

TCS Teaser 1

  Excerpt:

“Do you find my ability to converse lacking, Doctor?” He chuckles softly, no doubt remembering how I wasn’t chatty with anyone, himself included, for the first month of my stay. To be fair, it is difficult to carry on an invigorating discussion when one is shaking so hard from withdrawals they fear they might shatter into thousands of painful pieces before a single word can be uttered. Plus, there was the whole bit of how once I did open up, I raved liked a lunatic about things no normal person could imagine being true. “Certainly not,” he says to me. “But as I must stay at the Pleasance and you must go forth into the world, it will do you good to practice on somebody new.” “Then send in one of the orderlies. Or one of the nurses. I’ll happily chat with a staff member.” One of his bushy, out-of-control eyebrows lifts high into his forehead. “There are people out there who are quite content being solitary,” I point out. “Who do not need to converse with anybody but themselves and their dogs.” He sets his pen down. “What about cats?” Rigor mortis sets in ever so briefly at this question. “You father said you were quite fond of cats growing up. There was one in particular that you favored. Dinah, was it not?” “I’m—” I have to clear my throat. “Lately, I wonder if perhaps I’m more of a dog person after all.”
