~Synopsis~
Here's the deal... I learned a long time ago
that sometimes you have to use what you've got to make things happen. What I
happen to have is a pretty smile, long legs and the ability to make men believe
anything I say. Before you get on your high horse and start judging me, can you
honestly say you've never batted your lashes at some guy for a free drink at
the bar? That's what I thought.
Keep that in mind as I tell you my story of how I took it one step further. My story of lies, deceit, manipulation and love. Yeah, love. Believe me, it fits. Especially, when you factor in Nick and Tucker – one had my heart and the other one wanted it all for himself. Which one? Well, I can't tell you that. It would defeat the purpose of the story. If I'm going to fill you in about me, Lila Garrison, and my life as a con artist you're going to need to know all the facts, including the ones about the two guys who made me want to give up the life of fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, fast cars and easy money. Because sometimes, one person can give you something that's more valuable than all of that.
If you're still interested, stick around. Just remember, I'm pretty good at convincing people to do what I want, so if by the end of this whole thing you feel worked over, don't say I didn't warn you.

~Review~
I love Elizabeth Lee and think she is an
excellent author. I absolutely adored Escaping Me and Storm Warning so I was
eager to read another Elizabeth Lee novel. Give Me Something didn’t disappoint.
While it’s another contemporary romance, it had a unique plot that made it
stand out a bit for me.
Lila and her best friend Nick are con-artists
and they use Nick’s manipulation skills and Lila’s gorgeous looks to con men
for money. They’ve conned their way into a free ride to college and Lila is
ready to get out of the business and go honest. However, Nick wants her to do
one last job to help him out of a bind he’s gotten in. Lila agrees, but when
she meets Tucker, the mark she starts questioning everything. Especially when
she starts to fall for him.
I liked Lila but I wanted to punch her in the
face a time or two for being so naïve and not seeing Nick for who he really
was. She let him use her and take advantage of her because she loved him so
much. He is a manipulative, conniving douchebag and I wanted her to see that. I
totally get that love can make you blind and I believe that’s what happened
with Lila because Nick was always there for her and the only one she really
felt like she could trust. Even though Tucker is a mark and Nick tries to
convince her that he deserves to be conned, she can’t help but see something
different in him. As she gets to know Tucker, her eyes become opened a bit when
it comes to Nick and I was glad to see that change in her.
Tucker is the exact opposite of Nick which made
me love him all the more. He has inherited a fortune from his father’s death
but he’s still a really great guy and really down to earth. He still believes
in hard work and is a humble guy. He was a bit of a ladies man but there is
something about Lila that he is drawn too. It was a little insta-love for me
and a little hard to believe he would go from such a player to falling in love
so quickly but it wasn’t a big deterrent for me. Tucker is pretty freaking
awesome so I can forget about it.
While Lila is conning Tucker, she can’t help
fall in love with him and I was glad that she came clean and told him the
truth. His reaction to her confession surprised me a bit and I wasn’t expecting
it (in a good way). Despite the revelations that come to light for Lila in
regards to Nick, she still allows him to have a hold on her but I was glad to
see it didn’t cause problems with her and Tucker. Getting over Nick and falling
for Tucker was the smartest thing that Lila ever did. I really enjoyed the plot
and the way that Lila fell for Tucker and became a better person because of him.
She really grew and the development of her character was fantastic. There were a
few plot twists that I didn’t see coming and I liked that it wasn’t
predictable.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Give Me
Something. The plot flowed well and the characters were well developed. While I
hated Nick, that was a good thing because he isn’t supposed to be a likeable
characters so you know he’s written well. Nick’s getting his own book and I’m
definitely curious to see if he becomes the changed man Lila believes he can
be.

Elizabeth Lee Bio:
When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand. Here's the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination! Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!

I love it when an author makes you really hate a character you are supposed to hate, thats how you know they are doing it right! Great review!
ReplyDeleteTucker because he opens her eyes to the truth about nick
ReplyDeleteLove the con artist angle! And sometimes it's fun to really hate a character. Ok, I'm adding it to the list :)
