~Synopsis~
Bobby Beckerson was the American All-Star hockey player--he was the spitting image of perfection to his family. Goofy, sweet and undeniably gorgeous, he had everything but the one girl he wanted: River Ahlers.

River Ahlers is successful in everything but love. She's been in love with Adam Beckerson since they were kids. Worst of all she's stuck right in the middle of the brother's dueling over everything and anything, and she doesn't even know she's the ultimate prize.

Adam Beckerson was a boy with a guitar, a smile that sunk girl's hearts and a stone wall around his own. He was anything but perfect, and no matter how hard he tried he was nothing compared to Bobby. Sweet, damaged, with boyish good-looks, nobody thought Adam loved anyone but himself.

Bobby loved River, River loved Adam and Adam only loved himself--or so everyone thought. Then one night everything changes, and as it threatens to destroy everyone involved a tragedy strikes that will break them all...

~Review~

Love triangles are more common in young adult so I liked that Flawed Perfection added this element to a new adult book. With two brothers fighting over one girl, there was sure to be drama in this one. River is best friends with Bobby and Adam Beckerson but she has always loved Adam and Bobby has always loved River. No one knows who Adam loves, or do they?

There are a few things I like about River. She is honest about her feelings and she is a loyal friend. She never hides how she feels from Bobby or leads him on. He knows she loves Adam and she has always made her feelings for Adam and her desire for only friendship known to Bobby. She is always there for both Adam and Bobby and I really liked the way she supported Adam and stood up for him to his parents. Despite her feelings for Adam and how hard it is to be around him, she is always there to support him and be his friend.

I really liked Adam and even though he was considered a player, his feelings for River were obvious and I liked that he really cared for her. I was a little frustrated with him and his back and forth. I’m a bit over the “bad boy” thinking he’s not good enough for the girl. Even though Adam dated a lot of women, he wasn’t really a bad boy and he had no reason to think he wasn’t good enough for River. However, I understood that he would have that lack of self-worth considering the relationship he had with his parents. They are definitely not nice people and the way they favored Bobby and put down Adam was really sad. I could only imagine how he felt about himself considering the way they criticized everything he did and worshipped the ground Bobby walked on.

I wasn’t a big fan of Bobby. I felt like he was a bit manipulative and kind of malicious. I understood that he was madly in love with River and that it hurt him to see her pine over Adam but his actions were definitely immature. Instead of being happy that River is finally happy and Adam has realized his feelings, he chooses to try and mess with their relationship and he does some really hurtful things to both of them. However, I felt like Bobby grew a bit in the end and I was happy to see him make amends for River and Adam and finally be a little happy for them both. I was also really proud that he was finally able to see the shadow he had created for Adam with their parents and he finally recognized that.

Adam and River definitely had some chemistry and it was something that they couldn’t deny forever. You could feel the pull between them and the way they cared for and supported each other was so much more than just friendship, it was definitely love. They really went through a lot to be together and it was tough on them that it hurt their relationships with Bobby. I really liked that they didn’t let it affect them though. They worked really hard to help Bobby get over it but they didn’t let his behavior come between them and I really respected that. They hit some real obstacles in the end and they have a lot they will need to overcome together in the future.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I really liked the character development and the development of their relationships between them all. I felt like the plot lacked a little direction and I had a hard time following it at times. It felt a little disjointed to me. However, I still really enjoyed the book and it will be interesting to see how River and Adam handle the future they have ahead of them.

  1. Definitely liking the sound of this one-- it sounds like a well done triangle (although is it really a triangle if the girl is clear in her choice? hmmm) but anyhoo this does sound like a good read even if it does have the bad boy player. Great review.
