Review: Real by Katy Evans

Real
Author: Katy Evans
Publication Date: April 8, 2013

~Synopsis~
A fallen boxer.
A woman with a broken dream.
A competition…

He even makes me forget my name. One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…

Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.

He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .

But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.

I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

Mature New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up
~Review~
I was hooked on Real from the get go.This book totally blew my mind and I am honestly not even sure why. I have read tons of new adult novels and I can think of only one thing that made this one stand out; Remington Tate. He is possibly my favorite male sex god from all of the books I have read this year. He is strong, sexy, successful, determined, but most of all, he is complex.

I love a complex male character and I love the fact that he is so much more than just a sexy bad boy. He has real issues to face and he struggles to maintain control. He sees Brooke like he has never seen any other woman and he so desperately wants to be with her but he is so afraid of being left by her. I loved the way he expressed himself to her through music because he wasn't good with words. Then the way that they played songs to each other and spoke their feelings through music was so amazing to me. Brooke was a strong and determined woman but when it came to Remy, she lost all of her resolve. He evoked something inside her that no one else ever had or could. I loved being inside her mind, especially when she was with Remy, because the effect that he had on her mind and body was so entertaining. Her internal struggle because of her desire made me go crazy, but in a good way. Even though he turned her into putty, I liked that she also stood her ground with him. She wanted it all or nothing and she wasn't going to let him change her mind because she wanted him to stop holding back.

Oh my goodness, the sexual tension in this book was unreal. When they finally succumbed to their desires, I felt like a bubble burst in the room and I wanted to shout "Finally!" When he told her that she would be "his" and he would never let her go, I actually was not put off by it. In fact, I liked it and it really worked for me. Normally I don't care for over-protective, possessive male characters but it didn't bother me with Remy. I am an independent woman but, heck, I would probably let him posses me. The things that Remy did for Brooke in the end were so incredible and added that much more depth to his character.

I really enjoyed the plot in this book and all of the intricate twists that were weaved around the center of Remy and Brooke falling in love. It was well written, flowed nicely and held intrigue and depth. I love a plot that can really dig deep while still building incredible characters. Real did just that. I think Katy Evans is a great writer and this was an incredible debut novel. I CANNOT wait for more Remy!
~Quote~
"I'm every woman's adventure, damn you, and I don't want to be yours. I want to your REAL. You get that? I want you to belong to me. To be mine. I want you to give yourself to me- not Riptide!" ~Remy (Real by Katy Evans)

Katy Evans had some amazing music in this book and she included a playlist. You can see her playlist in the front of REAL. I wanted to include a couple additional songs from my IPOD that I thought of while reading this book.
~IPOD Picks~
"You Make It Real" by James Morrison
"Heart Attack" by Demi Lovato
