~Synopsis~
Since A
LOT of people have been asking here is the scoop on how this book fits in with
my Rook & Ronin series: Ford first appears in Rook and Ronin #2, Manic. He
has a bigger role in Panic, R&R #3, and then he has a novella, called
SLACK. This TAUT book is only FORD. It's not really part of the R&R series,
as that plot has all been sidelined for this one romance book.
**
Ford Aston is known for many things. Being an emotionless, messed up bastard, a freakishly smart social outcast, and a cold, domineering master who keeps "pets" instead of girlfriends.
And after Rook broke his heart, he plans to keep it that way.
Ashleigh is known for nothing, and that's exactly what she's got going for her. She's broke, stranded in the mountains with a three month old baby, and Ford Aston is screwing with her head.
Big. Time.
And she plans to mess with his right back.
It's a coy game at first, filled with flirting, and innuendo--but Ford soon realizes something is not quite right with Ashleigh. In fact, something is seriously, seriously wrong and the closer they get to their final destination, the closer Ford gets to the truth.
One night of devastation, self-loathing, and emptiness turns into the best thing that ever happened to Ford Aston. But one day of in-your-face reality threatens Ashleigh's whole existence.

~Review~
J.A. has done it again. I am madly in love with her writing and this book is no exception. I have loved everything of hers that I’ve read and I’m amazed at how she can make me love all the characters, even Ford. I have always bounced back and forth on whether or not I liked Ford but after this book I officially love him.
Ford is a different kind of guy. He has always
been a bit socially awkward and he has real issues with people touching him
which makes him seem like a sexual deviant. He is madly in love with Rook but
she is with Ronin and while she has feelings for Ford, she has made it clear
that Ronin is her choice. Ford feels like the only thing to do is leave so he
takes off for his family home in Vail late on New Year’s Eve. When his car
breaks down two miles from his house, he is stranded at a motel where he meets
Ashleigh.
Ford has sworn off love and kindness after
everything with Rook but the instant he meets Ashleigh, that all goes out the
window. I think he’s definitely met his match in her and I loved the
interactions back and forth between them. She definitely brings out Ford’s
gentler side and the way he is with her baby shocked me. I would never imagine
it from Ford. I also love how protective he becomes of them. Ford has
definitely met his match. I loved the way Ashleigh handles Ford and the way she cracks his shell. Watching all his walls fall down was definitely my favorite part.
Overall, I loved this book and I knew I would
because the entire series has been fantastic. I love the intrigue and mystery
within the plot and J.A. does such a great job of always surprising me. Ford
deserved his happy ending and I’m glad he got it.

AUTHOR BIO
J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).
She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.

Great review! I love how the series gives every character their own companion novel you get to really know people better through them. I read book 1 a few weeks ago so I've got some catching up to do before reading this one, though! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it when an author takes a character you are so so about and makes you fall in love with them! I cant wait to meet Ford (and Rook and Ronin too!) great review!

ReplyDeleteI loved how Ford fell for Ashleigh. I loved how perfect she was for him. After all his brooding over Rook (who was ALL wrong for him. ;) ) he met his PERFECT match. Swoon.
