Saturday @ Starbucks is a weekly feature hosted by Starbucks & Books Obsession.
This week's topic is:
Top TBR Books & a Glazed Doughnut
Starbucks of the Week: Glazed Doughnut
So the glazed doughnut at Starbucks is a dieter's arch nemesis and someone on Weight Watchers could use up almost all of their daily points on one. However, it is totally worth it because it is the greatest glazed doughnut I have ever tasted. I don't eat them often due to the sugary, calorie induced coma they are famous for but every once and a while, its okay to treat ourselves and I'd go with this one! Look at it! Aren't you salivating?
Also, it is still treat receipt time at Starbucks so go in early get your daily latte and then go back after 2:00 pm and get any grande for $2.00!
Book Topic of the Week: Top TBR Books
So this week, I have been thinking a lot about my TBR and the hundreds of unread books on my kindle. Over the last couple of months, I have participated in a lot of blog tours and taken a lot of review requests. I absolutely love being able to help authors promote their books and I am selective on what I accept or sign up for to make sure it is a book that I think I will really enjoy. However, this has resulted in my inability to read some of the books that I have purchased and been dying to read. I've been thinking a lot about it and it's okay to say no or not sign up for everything that is offered to me. I need to make sure I'm reading the books that I want to also and keeping my passion for reading and blogging alive.
Don't get me wrong, I am honored when authors want me to help them promote their books and I feel honored when I am chosen to be a part of something special like a blog tour or release launch. I just need to slow down a bit and allow myself to dig into the books that I have been dying to read and picked up for myself and nothing else. I have hundreds of books on my kindle and I obviously want to read every one of them but I thought I would just list a few of the ones that are at the top of my list. If you've read any of them, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what I'm missing out on; or not.
When I was writing this post, the amount of books on this list was unimaginable! So I decided to just include the Top 12 books for this post. I really want to know what you think and which book should be my next TBR pleasure read.
I think all bloggers will know exactly what you mean. My system of reading 1 arc, 1 bought book and 1 won book and then dip from any pile is working a charm. It feels great to be finally enjoying those books I was excited about buying but then got neglected for arcs.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these but The Distance Between Us is high on my priority list. I loved PP so much and there are rave reviews for this one also.
I definitely imagine I'm not the only one :-) I love your system! I need to implement something like that for sure. Thanks for the idea! I am really looking forward to The Distance Between Us!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've recently been grappling with this problem too. I'm just always so afraid I'll say no to what turns out to be a great book/book tour. Not to mention the fact that I'm flattered. But you're totally right- sometimes I need to remind myself that I read because *I* want to, not because I'm asked.

Considering pretty much all of those are ones I've LOVED.... I can say you will love: Near and Far, Matter of Fate, After Math, Just Breathe, Catching Liam. And all the others are on my TBR! (Except Biker Billionaire- I hadn't heard of that.) But I do understand. I've bought alot of books I really want to get to, and though I've lightened up on tours and am not accepting reviews right now (not officially anyway) I still haven't really gotten to those others. Sigh. It's never-ending, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI so feel you. I have so many books on my Kindle and on my shelves, not to mention all the awesome books I snag from my library, but I always feel guilty reading anything but ARCs. I've been trying to put to much pressure on myself--reading is, after all, a hobby that I love, but it is hard.
ReplyDeleteI've only read The Distance Between Us from your choices, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. Happy reading!
That's one of the reasons that I rarely do tours, I want to read what I want, and when I want to. The Distance Between Us sounds really good. Hope you get time to read it very soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be picking up lost & found after this last week of finals so YAY for Jesse. :) I really want to read distance between us. Catching liam was great! And pretty quick too so easy to squeeze in!
ReplyDeleteThis is a big reason I am afraid to get more involved in review requests and tours. I am completely torn between wanting to promote new books and new authors and wanting to be selfish and read only the books I know I will love and have been already recommended to me. 7 of your 12 books are in my Nexus waiting for me to have the time too.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate, I have a lot of books on my to read list that I haven't read because I am constantly reading new books that recently came out or ARCs. Your top tbr books all look great - can't wait to hear what you think (:
ReplyDeleteMe too! I don't want to say no if it sounds like a book I would enjoy but I really want to read the books I buy too. Such a dilemma :-)
ReplyDeleteI knew you would make my decision hard by telling me how awesome all those books are :-) I did Catching Liam and loved it. I am going to try and do 1 "me" book a week so I can finally get to some of these. It is totally never ending. I am really trying to tell myself to only do 1 tour a week starting in Sept. I think I have already blown that :-) October maybe? LOL
