Feature & Follow Friday Blog Hop #6

Feature and Follow is hosted by Alison Can Read & Parajunkee

This week's question is:
Have you ever read a book you thought you would hate? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

I have honestly never read a book that I thought I was going to hate. I have read books I thought I would love but ended up hating. I usually look at ratings and read reviews when picking out books and generally don't select one that is below 4 stars. I have thought about reading 50 Shades of Grey to see if I would like it since so many people have told me they didn't but I haven't read it yet.

Have you ever hate read a book?

  1. I liked 50 shades, lol. I didn't envy their relationship, but I understood why people would be entertained.

Thanks for stopping by my FF.

    1. Yeah, I have heard people say they liked it and I should read it and others who told me not too. I probably will eventually so I can form my own opinion :-)

    1. The sex wouldn't bother me but I have heard that the writing isn't very good. I'm sure I will read eventually.

  3. I think the comments above (and my comment, below) tell you a lot about whether or not reading Fifty Shades.

Personally, I didn't like or enjoy it. I think the sex scenes were written badly, and there was no redeeming factor when it came to the characters or plot. Christian is an overromantasiced sociopath and sadist, and if it had kept being fanfiction, there'd be no problem with that, but it's been published and there is a majority of people who isn't even aware of how abusive the relationship between the protagonists is, and how NOT BDSM-ish their relationship is, as well. (SSC? Certainly not.)

But that's kind of the thing? Like, everyone has an opinion, and we're all dead set on sharing it with everyone, and sometimes it says something about us as people, and sometimes it doesn't, but it's nice to have "canon" books that everyone has read? It's why I read the books, at least. /babbles on

    1. Thanks Patricia! I have to admit that I am over possessive, narcissistic male characters. I also like sex in a book but only when it is well written.

  4. I am somewhat like that. I will stay away from books that I don't think I would like, but at the same time if I saw a review on a book that was 3 stars and it looked like my kind of book I will most likely get it.

    1. I agree, I will still read a 3 star book if it sounds really intriguing to me. I have given 3 star reviews and they were books that I liked reading, just had flaws I couldn't ignore.

I do the same thing with book ratings. When I hear about a new book, I immediately go to Goodreads and see what the rating is. If it is less than 3.75 I usually won't consider it.

    1. Exactly, I don't want to waste my time or money on a book if I don't think I will like it or finish it. I will consider a 3 star book if it sounds really interesting to me.

  6. Like you far more likely to hate a book I wanted to love. If I think I'll hate it, it will stay on a bookshelf!

    1. Exactly. I can't think of a good enough reason to waste my time on a book I probably won't like.

  7. Well, everyone has a different opinion, so when I choose a book, it's because I liked the idea. Then I look what people think. :)

    1. I agree with you. I am a book cover junkie so a lot of times I am drawn in by the cover, then the synopsis and then the reviews.

    1. What is the point of wasting time and money for a book you won't even like? :-) Thanks for stopping by!

  12. That's a good answer. I think reviews only go so far, because everyone will have a different opinion, so even if I see bad reviews for something that I myself think sounds slightly interesting, I'll still check it out for myself.

    1. I agree with you. I use the ratings and reviews to pick books but if they still sound good to me and have a 3 I would still go for it because everyone has a different opinion. I have read plenty of books that reviewers hated and I loved them. :-)

What about in school? Didn't you ever *HAVE* to read anything for class that you thought would be awful, but that you ended up loving?
