~Synopsis~
Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.

~Review~

I fell in love with this series the moment I opened One Week Girlfriend and Three Broken Promises didn’t disappoint. I really enjoy Monica’s writing style and I think she creates some very real and relatable characters. We get to meet Jen and Colin in Second Chance Boyfriend and it’s obvious there was more to their story. You can feel the connection they have and the surface is just barely scratched there. Three Broken Promises gives us the chance to really get to know Jen and Colin and I know you’ll fall in love with them as much as I did.

Jen and Colin have history and have known each other since childhood. Colin promised her brother and her family that he would always look out for Jen and take care of her. When he finds her in a precarious way, he takes her into his home and gives her a job at his restaurant. He is clearly enamored with her and feels the chemistry that flows between them. He doesn’t see her as a charity case or a good deed, but as the woman that he truly cares about. He sees all the potential that Jen has for greatness and he fosters it and helps her grow. When she decides she wants to leave and try and make it on her own, he is devastated. Jen has become more than just and employee and a roommate. She has become the woman that he loves and the one woman he can’t really live without. However, Colin fights a lot of demons of his own and it holds him back from opening up to Jen and telling her how he really feels. I wanted to shake him a few times and shout, “Tell her you fool!”

Jen has gone through a difficult time and done what’s necessary to survive. This has broken her up inside and she is clearly struggling to overcome the things she’s done. Her biggest fear is that Colin will find out the whole truth and she couldn’t take the “disdain” she is sure she would receive from him. I think she’s always loved Colin and her biggest fear is losing him but she doesn’t really give him enough credit and she holds herself back a little because of it. However, I did like her strength and determination. She doesn’t want to feel like a burden to Colin or rely on him for everything. I also loved that she was upfront with him about wanting him and having feelings for him. She did hold herself back a bit for fear of rejection but one word from Colin would change that. “Stay.” That’s all she wants him to say.

I loved the chemistry between these 2 and the back and forth as they opened each other up and navigated the planes of their complicated relationship. It was obvious they were in love with each other from the beginning but Jen was too afraid of rejection to admit this to Colin and Colin was too afraid of being like his father to admit his love for Jen to himself, let alone her. Even though they held out on the emotional side of their relationship, they allowed themselves to explore the physical and it is HOT. I think Monica writes really great love scenes and she is excellent at making them steamy without overdoing it. There is such passion between these two and even though they fight it every step of the way, I was glad to see Colin make the right moves and prove to Jen that she’s more than just and obligation or a promise that he made.

Once again, I was so pleased with the writing, the plot and the characters in this book. I loved seeing more Fable and Drew because I adored them. Fable is, well Fable and I loved what a good friend she is to Jen. She’s honest and blunt but she’s also supportive. I can say, without a doubt that I enjoyed every minute of this book.

Ten Things Colin Thinks You Should Know About Jen

My couple from THREE BROKEN PROMISES, Colin and Jen, have known each other for a long time. Since they were children. So they definitely have a history, which means they know everything about each other, right?

Wrong. As they grew up and grew distant, they each have deep, dark secrets they’re keeping from each other. They’re scared to reveal those secrets to each other too. But that doesn’t mean Colin doesn’t know anything about Jen. He knows lots of things. Things she probably doesn’t even realize. So here’s Colin to tell you ten things he thinks you, the reader, should know about Jen.

1. Jen was the prettiest little girl you ever saw, not that I admitted that to anyone. Her brother and my best friend Danny would’ve kicked my ass if I ever said that.

2. She had such a close relationship with her brother and I was envious of it. I’m an only child so Danny was the closest thing to a brother I ever had.

3. When she graduated high school, I gave her a necklace. She hugged me tight and kissed me and I wanted to take it deeper but…I didn’t.

4. Jen is a good cook. It’s true. Her mom taught her everything she knows.

5. She’s smarter than she gives herself credit for.

6. She has the best laugh ever.

7. Jen also has the most delicious lips ever. But I think I might be getting into too intimate territory here…

8. When she was in her early teens, she babysat a lot around the neighborhood. The little kids loved her. I think this means she’ll make a good mom someday.

9. She’s afraid of commitment and so am I. This means we’re taking our relationship slow.

10. That doesn’t mean I’m not serious about her. That woman is going to be my wife someday. And I’m going to give her a big enough diamond to wear on her finger that everyone will know she belongs to me.
