Review: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess
Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books

Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.

I absolutely loved Clockwork Princess and felt like The Infernal Devices was a series that got better and better with each book and culminated in a fabulous ending. All loose ends within the plot were tied up and the love triangle between Tessa, Will and Jem was finalized in a very satisfying way.

I don't know that I can say much more about my feelings for Tessa, Will & Jem that I haven't already said in my reviews of the past 2 books. I loved Gideon and Sophie and their subplot within the story. We got see so much more from them in this book and I really enjoyed their interactions with one another. Gideon is a loyal shadowhunter and a kind and gentle man. Sophie is such a strong girl and she is so loyal to the institute and such a fierce girl. I also came to understand and even like Gabriel throughout this book.

As usual, I was just as enraptured by the plot of this book as I was by the characters. It picked up a few months after the second book left off and the Magister is still somewhere plotting against the shadowhunters, Tessa is still in love with Jem and Will and Charlotte is fighting to hold onto the institute. Once again, the author creates twists and turns that I never expected and kept me on the edge of my seat. She also had my heart-wrenching and tears brimming in my eyes. At the end, I literally had to step a way for a few minutes to clear the lump in my throat and compose my emotions.

I have become so emotionally involved with this series and as the books went on, I found myself developing the need to read more and more until it consumed me. This book was so fantastic and I have never been happier about the ending of a series than I was with this one. The way Cassandra Clare wrote the ending was out of this world and I feel sad that it is over but content with the end. I have never been happier about the way a love triangle played out like I was with this one. I could never have dreamed that I would actually like a love triangle, let alone be utterly satisfied with the way it went down. This has become a new favorite series for me and I am certain it will be a re-read one day.

Favorite Quote:

"And if the Thames that ran beside them, sure and silver in the afternoon light, recalled a night long ago when the moon shone as brightly as a shilling on this same boy and girl, or if the stones of Blackfriars knew the tread of their feet and thought to themselves: At last, the wheel comes full circle, they kept their silence."~ Cassandra Clare (Clockwork Princess)
