Review: Frigid by J.Lynn

Frigid
Author: J.Lynn
Publisher: Spencer Hill
Publication Date: July 15, 2013

~Synopsis~
For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

~Prelude~
So I feel like I’m being bias when I read any books by Jennifer Armentrout/J.Lynn because I swear almost every book of hers is a 4 or 5 star for me. I have loved her writing since the first book I read and I wonder if that clouds my judgment. Like, “Oh, it’s J.Lynn, ok 5 stars.” But really, it isn’t like that because I am mesmerized by all of her books. There is something about her writing style that draws me in and I just can’t get enough. Frigid was no different.

~Review~
I absolutely loved Frigid. I knew I would. I expected it. However, it still managed to exceed my expectations in every way. As usual, the writing in this book was beyond fantastic. The dialogue that J.Lynn writes pulls me in every time and holds on to me until the very end.

Sydney is one of my favorite J.Lynn characters. She is funny, smart and extremely strong. She has been in love with Kyler since forever but has had to watch him have girl after girl and she still manages to stay best friends with him. If it were me, I would have had a few choice words for him and make sure he missed me when I was gone. Syd, however, just wants Kyler in her life even if it is just as friends. One of the things I really liked about Syd was her growth. She let loose, had some fun and she opened up with Kyler. She grew some “lady balls” and started to tell him and show him how she felt. Watching a character really grow is one of my favorite parts of reading and Syd really came out of her shell and showed Kyler what he would be missing.

“He was equal opportunity when it came to having sex.”

Kyler, oh dear sweet Kyler. Even though he was a total man-whore, I couldn’t help loving him because he was so sexy and sweet. He loved Syd and worried that he would never be good enough for her. He watched out for her and protected her while loving her from a distance. He is sexy, smart and worth so much more than he gives himself credit for. If he would just open his eyes, he would see how Syd feels about him. I have been trying to think of all the words and ways to describe him and it is just so hard so I will end this paragraph with YOU WILL SWOON.

"There was nothing sexier than a guy playing a guitar. Okay. Maybe a guy on a motorcycle. That was pretty hot, too."

Even though this book is about Syd and Kyler finally finding their way to each other after all these years of hidden love, there was so much more to the plot too and I loved that. As Kyler fights his desire for Syd and she tries to find the courage to tell him how she feels, there is some mystery and intrigue added to the plot with the crazy things that are happening at the cabin while they are stranded in a snow storm. It was obvious who was messing with them but what their motive was and how it would escalate is what gripped me to the story. Oh and lets not forget the climax (no pun intended, okay maybe a little) of Syd and Kyler’s attraction and when they both just let go and let it happen. Their desire and romance was definitely steamy and blush worthy.

Overall, I was blown away by Frigid and I’m not sure how J.Lynn keeps doing it. I fell in love with the characters, I enjoyed the plot and I blushed in the sex scenes. This is everything I need from a new adult novel. I started this book on Monday evening and told my husband I wasn’t going to bed until I finished. And I didn’t.

  10. I agree, the man whore thing is getting old because it seems to be in every NA book. That is why I like the books with the good guy and bad girl, it's refreshing. I can get past it in this book because there is something about JLA's writing that just gets to me. I do hope you enjoy it :-)
