Saturday @ Starbucks is a weekly feature hosted by Starbucks & Books Obsession.
This week's topic is:
Book Immersion & a Very Berry Coffee Cake
Starbucks of the Week: Very Berry Coffee Cake
Starbucks is the coffee capital and everyone knows about their drinks. They get me through the week. However, I have also discovered some amazing food at Starbucks too. The Very Berry Coffee cake is one of my favorite breakfeast items. It is sweet and tangy and reduced fat to top it off. It is the perfect compliment to a hot latte.
Book Topic of the Week: Book Immersion
I did a lot of reading this week. Somehow I just cranked out the books and it got me thinking about book immersion and how wrapped up I can get in a book and the after effect it has on me. I know I am not the only one who has this problem. I'm sure you have all felt the hangover from an emotionally intense book. I have always been a reader and loved reading since I was a child but since I became a blogger, I feel like I have immersed myself so much farther into the book world. As a woman now, I also read a lot of new adult and intense contemporary books which are easy to get emotionally involved in. I find myself feeling all kinds of emotions for these fictional characters and their lives as if they were happening to me.
Since I read a lot of new adult novels, there are a lot of sexy, tattooed bad boys and I find myself being attracted to that more and more. I mean, I have always liked tattoos, I have a couple of my own, but I never really noticed them or gave them a second glance on guys. Now, when I see a guy with tattoos, I definitely find myself paying a lot more notice. Seriously, what have guys like Remington from REAL or Lucas from EASY done to me. I'm not gonna lie, I also look at men on motorcycles a little differently too.
Seriously though, I know books aren't real life and the men in them aren't real but it sure is fun to pretend and I love getting so immersed that I can feel the emotions and fall for these men.
What about you? Do you find yourself caught up in the books you read and falling for the men in them?
I always get caught up in a book when it's a good one. I hate being interrupted and dragged out of the book as it breaks the flow for me. I fall for ALL the boys! But I'm always happy to read them and leave them and move on to the next one, it's a rare one that makes a lasting impression on me.
ReplyDeleteI don't read much until after the kids are in bed and Hubs is out for the night. I get started about 10 p.m. If the book I am reading is really good, I may forget to watch the time and really regret life the next morning. As for the men, who can resist some of the guys we get to "meet"?
ReplyDeleteThe Adam Levine photo!! *drools* Yep, I love my men tattooed, I think I always did :P
ReplyDeleteAnd yes sometimes I "fall in love/lust" with book guys too. I know it's not real (duh) but like you said, it's fun to pretend.
I hate being interrupted too! Probably why I spend many late nights finishing a book :-) I probably think about more of them than I should but there are very few that I truly love :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I have many late nights and many regretful mornings! These men are pretty hard to resist :-)
ReplyDeleteI know, right?! I love Adam Levine and all of his tattooed glory. It is so much fun to pretend :-)
ReplyDeleteOh HEY THERE adam levine! there is totally something sexy about tattooed men. Oh and yes -- book immersion. After I binge read almost hte entire Vampire Academy series last weekend, I walked around monday in a daze. I was just so IN that world and I loved it. It made me sad to walk around in real life because it was just so boring in comparison! And then I just missed the characters and everything and.. yeah book hangover for sure. I moped around all Monday. haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm hungry. From the cake and uhh the pictures. :D Oh yes. I definitely am on the lookout for tattoos! To answer your question: DOUBLE YES. I always get caught up and I totally fall hard for the book boys. And then pout because I haven't met one in real life.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I hate when I have a book hangover like that. I have given myself a few of those. I want to touch every tattoo on Adam Levine's body :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL, The pics definitely made me hungry :-) I think you and I are very similar when it comes to book men!
ReplyDeleteOh Chelsea, I don't even know where to begin....Book hangovers? YUP! I can get into such a funk that it is noticeable to my friends and family. My husband tells me regularly "its just a book". I finish a book and have to just sit and think and process it for hours sometimes before I can move on. I need to make sure that the characters will all be alright and the decisions made were the best ones. It's a little sick.
ReplyDeleteAbout my book boys? I have always had a big things for musicians and tattoos (my husband is a musician with a tattoo, duh). But I definitely find I crave those kinds of guys and certainly look twice when I see them on the street. I've asked my hubby if he thinks I treat him any different based on the guys in my books and he says no, but I do have to constantly tell myself that these perfect men are not real. In real life, Jet and Rule would leave their socks on the floor and dishes in the sink and forget the milk and all of that other stuff. Also, sex would not always be perfectly hot with multiple orgasms.
That just made me LOL so loud! Ditto : )
ReplyDeleteIt may sound creepy but it's true :-)
ReplyDeleteI totally get into a funk sometimes. My husband says the same thing to me and I am like, "you don't understand!" Your comment about perfect men made me LOL and is so true. I have to tell myself that all the time :-)
