Feature & Follow Friday Blog Hop #2

Feature & Follow is hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee!

This week's question:

What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?

I would have to say that I didn't really like The Giver. So many people loved the book and really rave about it but I could not get into it and had a really hard time reading it. I know that it is a classic but I just couldn't get into the story.

On the flip side, I had several friends tell me they weren't satisfied with the Matched Trilogy and I really enjoyed it and was happy with the way it concluded.

  1. I've not read The Giver or the Match series. I really don't like dystopians, so I have never even given them a try. I do love Lois Lowry, though. Number the Stars is great.

  4. Ooooh, I loved, loved, loved Matched! But I have to say I didn't like the last two books.

I only read the Giver once, it was nothing memorable.

  6. I actually loved The Giver as a child. (It was the first dystopian I read without knowing it!) =)) And I didn't like Matched all that much.

I find it amusing, though, that we are exact opposites. =)) But all readers differ and different genres cater to individual readers! :D

Thanks for stopping by my blog!
    Am following you back. :D

  11. We read The Giver at school and that was such a long time ago I don't remember it well. I know I liked it then, but I was probably 12 or 13 too.

I have only read Matched and well.. I don't remember it well.. so I might have to reread it before reading the other two!

  12. This is why I love this meme and blogging. Everybody has it's own taste and it's fun to see. The last blog I visited used Matched as their disappointing book. I still need to read it though..

  17. I've never read the Giver--it's one I always mean to get around to. I've heard that the 1st and 3rd books of Matched are good, but that it stalls in the middle. I'll have to try it out some time. :D New follower via GFC. Follow me back at LKHill and Musings on Fantasia. Happy Friday!

The Giver has been on my TBR for a long time. I suspect I will like it, just because of the books it has been compared to. I'm with you on the Matched books. They didn't do much for me.

  31. I have a question for you though, did you read Matched first, or The Giver... because I had the opposite problem, I'd read The Giver first and felt like Matched was just the poor man's version of it.

I also had this problem with 1984 and Fahrenheit 451... which was terrible... since Bradbury is a wonderful author, and I love all of his other work... but I didn't read him for years because I was forced to read Fahrenheit 451 in school after reading 1984 and I felt like he was just a copying hack. Oye, I was so dumb. LOL!
